GATE 2021 Application Form (Apply till 12th October with Late Fee)

The last date to register for GATE 2020 without a late fee closes on 5:00 PM on October 08. Candidates can still apply with a late fee of Rs. 500 till October 12, 2020. Candidates can check the details pertaining to the application form here. It is mandatory to check the eligibility criteria of GATE 2021 before applying for the exam as the application forms for ineligible candidates will be rejected. While filling the application form, valid information about the personal, academic and contact details has to be submitted by the candidates. The required application fee also has to be paid through online mode. Premier and top technical institutes in India accept the GATE score for admission to postgraduate and PhD engineering programmes.

Documents Required to Fill GATE Application 2021

Here is the list of documents required to fill GATE 2021 application form - 

  • A scanned copy of photograph and signature of the candidate.

  • Valid Photo ID such as Aadhaar Card/Passport/Driving License/PAN Card/Voter ID/College ID/Employee Identification Card/Notarized Affidavit with Photo, Signature, Date of Birth and Residential Address.

  • For foreign applicants required a Passport/ Govt. Issued ID/College ID/Employee ID will be the valid ID proofs.

  • Degree Certificate/Provisional Certificate/Course Completion Certificate.

  • Copy of Mark Sheet of the 5th /6th /7th semester.

  • Final year students must submit Provisional Certificate Letter as per format issued by the Home of Institute/Dean/Registrar/Head of Dept.

  • Candidates in the final year of AMIE have to submit their mark sheet for Section A of AMIE in case of professional equivalent qualifications.

  • Caste Certificate (if applicable) as per given format.

  • Disability or PwD Certificate (if applicable).

  • Candidates pursuing a higher degree or masters have to submit the qualifying degree certificate.

  • Candidates with backlogs have to upload a copy of the mark sheet of the final year issued by the institute where they are studying.

  • Net banking/credit card/debit card details for payment of the fee.

Step by Step Process to Apply for GATE 2021

In order to apply for GATE 2021, candidates will have to follow certain steps if they want to complete the entire process in a systematic and correct manner. The registration process for GATE 2021 involves the following stages: Registration,  GOAPS Password, GOAPS Enrolment ID,  Application Filling and Uploading Images and Supporting Documents, Online Fee Payment, etc.

GATE application process

Step1: Registration through GOAPS:

  • Visit the official website of GATE.

  • Register as “New User” and proceed as mentioned in the guide. 

  • After successful registration, they will get access to GOAPS with the credentials they entered such name, valid email ID and mobile number.

  • International candidates must note that any contact with the candidate will be done only through the provided e-mail ID.

Note: The email ID and mobile number submitted must be valid in nature because all communication related to the examination will be sent through this medium.

  • After providing all details like a valid email address, mobile number and a GOAPS password of their choice.

GOAPS Password:

  • While creating the password, the applicants must note that they should create the password, which cannot be guessed easily.

  • It is advisable for applicants not to use their name, date of birth or easily guessable string of alphabets or numbers.

  • Try creating a password that has numbers, alphabets and special characters.

  • Confirm the registration.

GOAPS Enrolment ID:

  • After the successful registration, the candidates receive an email that contains the GOAPS Enrolment ID.

  • The Enrolment ID is necessary to log in for filling the online application form for GATE 2021.

Step 2: Filling GATE 2021 Application Process:

  • Next, applicants had to fill the application form of GATE 2021 with Personal information including Name, Date of Birth and other requisite information,

  • Click on 'Start the GATE 2021 Application Process' tab.

  • Personal Details: Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Nationality, Category, A person with Disability Status and Dyslexia Status, Country of Permanent Residence, State/Union Territory, Select ID Proof and Enter ID Proof Number, Name of Parent/Guardian (stick to the specifications), Country of Residence of Parent/Guardian, Mobile Number of Parent/Guardian etc.

    •  Address details for communication purpose (PIN code mandatory)

  • Eligibility details, i.e. previous education details: Name of the college where the candidate had completed UG degree. The candidates must also specify the address of the college along with PIN code.

    • Before filling the application form, the candidates must have clarity on the GATE paper and examination centre.

Step 3: Uploading of Scanned Documents:

In this step, candidates have to upload their scanned recent photograph, signature and other documents (if required) according to the specifications mentioned by the exam conducting authorities. 

  • High quality scanned image (JPEG format) of photograph and signature.

  • Thumb impression as per the specified requirements.

  • Scanned images (JPEG format) of degree certificates/ mark sheets

  • Scanned copy of category certificate (if applicable) in PDF format.

After uploading the documents, read the declaration and click on the ' checkbox' to proceed to the fee payment.

Step 4: Preview of Application Form:

  • Before proceeding to online fee payment, the server will display the preview of the GATE 2021 application form.

  • No changes will be allowed once candidates click on ‘Confirm and Final Submit’ button.

  • All candidates are advised to thoroughly check their submitted information for any mistakes.

  • Click on “Confirm and Submit”.

Step 5: Payment of Fees:

  • The payment of fees has to be done through online mode such as net banking/debit card/credit card. 

  • After the payment is done, the candidates will be redirected to the GOAPS website. 

  • The details for the application fee are given below.

Note: The application fee of GATE 2021 varies for Indian nationals and International candidates.

Step 6: Submission of Application Form 2021:

  • After payment, the application form of GATE 2021 will be successfully submitted through GOAPS.

  • Download it and take a print out of the filled application form and keep it for your own reference.

GATE 2021 Online Application Correction

The GATE 2021 application correction window for registered candidates will be available in October 2020. However, not all information is open to changes. The last date for correcting the mistakes in the GATE 2021 application form will be mentioned on the online notification sheet. In order to make changes, candidates must send an E-mail to their respective zonal office.

The following details can be edited before paying the application fee-

  • Communication Address, Academic Details, Date of Birth, Gender and Category can be corrected.

  • The correct document defining the category status can also be.

The following changes that cannot be made in the submitted GATE Application Form:

  • The E-mail Id mentioned by the candidate

  • Phone Number is given by the candidate

  • Paper for attending GATE 2020.

Since the details mentioned-above cannot be edited, in case the mistake is made then applicants have to re-apply for GATE 2020 with a new E-mail ID and Phone Number. It must be noted that the previous application fee will not be refunded.

GATE 2021 Correction of Exam Centers

Candidates applying for GATE 2021 must also know that they can now change the exam city and appear at the centre that suits them. This process can be done once the Application Procedure is complete and processed for further proceedings of GATE 2021. The provisions for the same has started and the ones interested can now make the relevant changes. The test takers can download the form released by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi for making the changes in the exam city. A requisite amount is also to be paid along with the desired correction. The form was released on November 2020 and is about to end soon. Therefore, candidates who wish to make changes must not wait further as the window once closed will not be opened again. No further changes will then be entertained with respect to exam centres.

GATE 2021 Application Status 

The authorities are scrutinizing the submitted GATE 2021 application form for data accuracy. If any discrepancy is found, the candidates will be notified via email or SMS. The scrutiny process will continue even after the application portal is closed.

Candidates will be able to check their status after logging into their GOAPS account. It is important to rectify the discrepancies within the allotted time otherwise the application form will get rejected. 

What is the Use of Identity Proof for GATE 2021 Application Process?

Valid identity proof is a very important document that the candidates must carry along with their GATE 2021 admit card otherwise, the candidates will not be allowed to sit in the GATE 2021 entrance exam. Also, while filling up the GATE 2021 online application form, the candidates have to provide a valid identity document which will confirm their identity. The candidates may provide any of the following documents as valid identity proof:

  • PAN Card

  • Passport

  • Aadhar Card

  • Voter Card

  • Driving License

  • College identity card

The candidates are expected to carry their original identity card which has been issued by a competent authority. The foreign students have to carry either a Government Issued ID card, valid Passport, Employee Identity card or College Identity card as an identity proof along with the admit card for GATE 2021.

List of Rejected Candidates for GATE 2021

For the reference of the candidates, the exam authority will release a list of candidates whose GATE 2021 applications have been rejected. The list that is released comprises of two types of candidates – candidates not meeting eligibility requirements and the other whose provided information will be found to be duplicate. As already announced in the GATE 2021 brochure, it should be noted that for such candidates, no application fee will be refunded and no admit card for GATE 2021 will be generated/released. Additionally, a list of enrollment IDs of the candidates whose applications are provisionally accepted will also be released.

Note: According to the official brochure, "If a candidate takes more than one application for the same paper, he/she will be allowed to appear in any one session only. One of the duplicate/triplicate applications will be considered and the remaining applications will be rejected without any refund of application fee".

I have chosen category as OBC while filling GATE application, but there is no option to upload the certificate. What to do?

The OBC Certificate is not required to be uploaded. OBC certificate is required only while taking admission using the GATE score.

For how many GATE papers can I apply?

A candidate can apply for only one of the 25 papers listed on the official website of GATE 2020. The choice of the appropriate paper is the responsibility of the candidate. Some guidelines in this respect are suggested below. 1. The candidate is expected to appear in a paper appropriate to the discipline of his/her qualifying degree. 2.
