About NEST 2018

The National Entrance Screening Test, which is popularly known as NEST, is a national-level entrance examination for the candidates seeking admission into 5-year Integrated M.Sc Programme in Basic Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. NEST 2018 is jointly organised by NISER (Short for National Institute of Science Education and Research), Bhubaneshwar and UM-DAE CEBS (Short for University of Mumbai -Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences), Mumbai. NEST 2018 is going to be organised on 2nd June 2018 in online (computer-based) mode in 106 cities.

NEST 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for NEST 2018 must fulfill the eligibility criteria prescribed by the exam conducting authority. The NEST 2018 eligibility criteria comprise of all the conditions that applicants are required to fulfill. The eligibility norms include age criteria, educational qualification, and the minimum qualifying marks that applicants must score in order to be eligible for the entrance exam.

The eligibility requirements of NEST 2018 are specified below:

Age Limit:

  • General and OBC category applicants born on or after 1st August, 1998 are eligible to apply for NEST 2018.

  • There is five years relaxation for SC/ ST /PwD applicants.

Educational Qualification:

  • Applicants should have a combination of any 3 subjects among Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics in classes 11th and 12th.

  • Candidates should have passed class 12 examination or equivalent from any recognised Board in India in the year 2016 or 2017.

  • Final year applicants are also eligible for NEST 2018.

Minimum Marks Required:

  • Applicants should secure at least 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent in class 12 examination.

  • For candidates belonging to reserved (SC/ST /PwD) categories, the minimum requirement of marks is relaxed to 55% in aggregate.

Number of attempts:

  • There is no restriction on the number of attempts for NEST 2018 examination.

NEST 2018 Exam Pattern

Candidates preparing for NEST 2018 must know the detailed pattern of the exam. NEST exam pattern describes the complete paper pattern, subject-wise marking scheme, distribution of marks, and time duration of the entrance exam. NEST 2018 is organised in online (Computer-Based) mode.

  • Candidates are advised to keep their important documents ready a night before the examination.

  • Candidates must bring their NEST 2018 Admit Card along with a valid identity proof with photograph on it.

NEST 2018 Result has been announced on 18th June 2018 at 12 noon. The result of NEST 2018 is available on the official website of the exam. NEST 2018 Merit List

On the basis of ranks secured in NEST 2018, a merit list is prepared for the qualified candidates after result declaration. In case, two or more candidates secure similar marks then there exists a tie. Tie-breaker method is used to break the tie:

  • In case two candidates get the same marks in the examination, the candidates with the maximum score in the General section get a better rank.

  • If the tie condition still remains, then the scores obtained in the other sections are also compared. The candidate with high marks in any of the subject section gets a better rank.

  • If the tie still continues, then the respective candidates are given the same provisional rank at the time of the announcement of the result and the tie is broken by equating marks obtained in class 12 and Date of Birth in that order.

NEST 2018 Counselling Process

After the declaration of results, NEST 2018 counselling dates will be available for candidates who qualify the examination. NEST 2018 counselling procedure is conducted in offline mode in various rounds and is likely to begin in the last week of June. To participate in the NEST 2018 counselling, candidates have to report at the counselling venue on the specified date and time.

The counselling is organised in the following manner:

  1. In the first phase of counselling, candidates have to report at the counselling venue of their choice. The next thing is NEST joint counselling, which is conducted for NISER & UM-DAE CEBS as per the NEST original merit list.

  2. Qualified candidates are offered admission in NISER & UM-DAE CEBS on the basis of modified merit list, which is prepared after the first round of counselling. 

  3. A second counselling takes place depending on the seats left vacant at the institutes. However, it is not a joint counselling.

  4. In the second round, each participating institute prepares their own waiting list. The vacant seats are filled based on the waitlist declared by the participating institutions on their respective websites.

Note: If candidates fail to meet any of the criteria as mentioned by the participating institutes, it could result in cancellation of their admission. In case, a candidate wishes to withdraw his/her admission, he/she may do so through mail or in person.

  • SC, ST or non-creamy layer of OBC categories have to produce their Original Caste Certificate as per Central Govt.

  • Medical Certificate needs to be presented if the candidate is Physically Challenged (PC). Certificate should be issued by Medical Officer of any Government Hospital with description of the kind and the degree of disability.

  • In case the Date of Birth is not mentioned in class X Certificate, Date of Birth (DOB) Certificate is required for the same.

  • Original E-admit card, counselling letter from ICAR should also be present with the candidate.

  • 4 recent Passport size colored Photographs needs to be submitted, having  candidates Name and Date mentioned at the back.

  • Domicile Certificate

  • Authority letter/Undertaking in the prescribed format, if the candidate is unable to attend the counselling personally.

  • Demand Draft drawn in favor of NISER, payable at Bhubaneswar or in favour of UM-DAE CBS, payable at Mumbai, wherever candidates are appearing for NEST 2018 counselling.

NEST Admit Card 2018

NEST admit card 2018 has been released on 25th April, 2018 in online mode on its official website. The admit card is available for the candidates who have registered for the entrance exam. To download the NEST admit card, candidates have to log in with their Application Number, Password and the captcha image code.

How to Apply for NEST 2018

NEST 2018 application process has already begun from 1st January, 2018 in online mode. There is no offline mode to apply for the NEST 2018 entrance exam. Candidates applying for NEST 2018 must submit their applications before the last date, i.e. 5th March 2018.

Steps to Fill NEST 2018 Application Form

Registration:

  • Go to the official website of NEST 2018.

  • Click on the 'Apply Online' tab and register yourself by providing your basic details.

  • You will receive an SMS on your mobile number with your User ID and Password.

  • After that, click on the link you receive on your registered E-mail Address for confirmation.

  • Then, login with the registered E-mail Address and Password.

Filling up of NEST 2018 Application Form:

  • After logging in with the registered E-mail ID and Password, you have to provide your personal details such as Name, Gender, Date of Birth, Religion, Nationality, Parent's Name and Academic Details such as address, Email ID,  Mobile number, Qualifying Marks, Year of Passing and Percentage of Marks etc.

NEST 2018 Answer Key
