CTET (July) 2020 Eligibility Criteria

CTET eligibility 2020 for July exam will be specified by CBSE in the official CTET information brochure. For the benefit of candidates, CTET eligibility norms or guidelines have been explained in a simple manner. What's New in CTET December 2020 Eligibility Criteria?

According to the official CTET December 2020 notification, there aren't major or minor changes in the CTET eligibility. Candidates must note that no changes in CTET eligibility criteria are expected midway. 

Previous Changes in the CTET Eligibility

There was a slight change in the CTET 2020 eligibility criteria. As per the revised eligibility criteria of CTET, candidates who've obtained a B.Ed degree with 50% marks can now apply to become a teacher at the primary level (Class I to IV). Earlier, such candidates were eligible to become elementary level teachers' only. The new change introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which is also the conducting body of the exam, means that candidates with a B.Ed degree and 50% marks can now apply for both Papers I and Paper-II.

Candidates who want to participate in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2020 must be aware of the parameters required for enrolling in the examination. CBSE has prescribed the CTET 2020 Eligibility Criteria for the aspirants of CTET. Candidates can read the details related to the eligibility criteria on the official website of CTET.

The eligibility criteria of CTET 2020 defines factors like age, educational qualification, nationality, minimum marks scored, reserved category proof, caste, etc. In order to be able to sit for the CTET 2020 examination, candidates must fulfil the following factors. The CTET eligibility criteria 2020 for the Paper I (which is the Primary stage) is different from Paper-II (which is the Elementary stage). 

CTET Paper I Eligibility Criteria 2020 (Classes I to V)

The eligibility criteria for CTET Paper - I exam 2020 can be checked below -

  • The candidates who have passed Class 12 exam with a minimum of 50% (45% for reserved categories) of marks and have passed D.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education) course are eligible to register for CTET December 2020 exam. Candidates who are pursuing final-year D.Ed course are also eligible to apply for CTET July 2020 exam. (OR)
  • Candidates who have passed Class 12 with a minimum of 45% of marks and have passed B.EI.Ed course (Bachelors in Elementary Education) are eligible to register for CTET exam. Candidates who are pursuing final-year B.EI.Ed course is also eligible for CTET exam. (OR)
  • Candidates who have passed Class 12 with a minimum of 50% of marks and have completed D.Ed in Special Education are eligible for CTET exam. Candidates pursuing final-year D.Ed in Special Education course can also register for CTET exam. (OR)
  • Candidates who have passed Bachelor's degree and B.Ed with a minimum of 50% of marks are eligible to register for CTET exam.

CTET Paper II Eligibility Criteria 2020 (Classes VI to VIII)

CTET Paper II eligibility criteria 2020 can be checked below -

  • Candidates who have completed a Bachelor's degree and have passed D.Ed course are eligible to register for CTET exam. (OR)
  • Candidates who have passed Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% of marks and have passed B.Ed can also register for CTET exam. (OR)
  • Candidates who have passed Class 12 and B.EI.Ed with a minimum of 50% of marks is eligible to register for CTET exam. (OR)
  • Candidates who have passed Class 12 and have passed B.A. B.Ed/ B.Sc B.Ed integrated course are eligible to register for CTET exam. (OR)

Note: Candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ Differently-Abled categories will be given a relaxation of 5% of marks in the minimum marks required in educational qualification. 

Additional Information about CTET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Some of the important points regarding the CTET 2020 eligibility criteria have been discussed below:

  • Those candidates in possession of an NCTE recognised diploma or degree in teacher education will stand a better chance of getting selected for a teaching job in a good school

  • Rehabilitation Council of India or RCI recognised programmes will be considered for a degree or diploma in Special Education

  • A 6-month special programme recognised by NCTE in elementary education is a must for those candidates who have D.ed in Special Education
