How to Apply for IGNOU OPENMAT 2020

The application form for IGNOU OPENMAT 2020 will be released by IGNOU on 31st January to 29th February 2020. The entrance test of-IGNOU OPENMAT will take place on 29th April, 2020 for all the candidates looking at pursuing PG programmes such as PGDM and MBA. Candidates who have submitted the form will be able to get the admit card from 1st April, 2020. 

Candidates need to follow few instructions to fill in the IGNOU OPENMAT 2020 application form which are available on the official website or are also written on the application form bulletin. But once the form is submitted, candidates cannot make any correction. The application form is published online only on the official website and the candidates will not get any printed application form to fill in. 

Candidates also need to keep a track of the important dates regarding the registration process or the application form filling process of IGNOU OPENMAT 2020. Listed below are the important dates for IGNOU OPENMAT 2020.

Documents Required for IGNOU OPENMAT 2020

Candidates need the following documents while filling in the IGNOU OPENMAT 2020 application

  • Work Experience Certificates

  • Academic Certificates

  • Aadhar number

  • Scanned photograph and Signature

Candidates need to upload the signature and scanned documents in a specific format. The university has released guidelines for the same

  • The photograph should be less than 100 KB in size and should be in JPG/JPEG format

  • The signature should be less than 50 KB in size and should be in JPG/JPEG format

Online Application Process for IGNOU OPENMAT 2020


  • The first step is Registration and generation of User ID and Password.

  • Click on the tab “Register Online”.

  • After this, the drop-down list will display several options. Candidates must select the “Online Admission” tab.

  • They will be directed to the online admission system (OAS) homepage initiated by IGNOU University.

  • Here, candidates will have to click on the tab indicating 'Register Yourself'.

    • Remember, while choosing a Username. It must be between 8 to 16 characters.

    • While choosing a password, ensure that it must be alphanumeric and between 8 to 16 characters.

  • Enter basic details such as name, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, mobile number, email address, gender, nationality, and password.

  • After filling the mandatory information, click the 'SUBMIT' tab.

  • Then, the candidates receive an email which will be sent to the registered email address and SMS with a link to the login page and login credentials.

Login and filling up of details:

  • In this step, candidates will have to provide their choices of Programme type, Regional centre, Medium, Study centre code, and State code.
  • After that, they must enter other details such as Employment status, Scholarship details, and Academic details,  and click on the 'Continue' tab.

Upload the Documents:

  • After submitting all the login credentials, the next step is to upload the scanned photographs/images and signature.
  • Candidates need to upload the scanned images of their recent photograph, signature with prescribed size and format.
  • After this, they must pay the application fee.
  • They must click on the 'Next' tab and then they will be redirected to the payment page.

Once the candidates have uploaded their photograph and signature, click the next button. They will get the Form preview option. Save/Print their form for future reference.

Payment of Fees:

  • The online application fee for IGNOU OPENMAT 2020 is INR1000 and it is the same for all the candidates. This fee has to be paid in the last step of the application process and only after the fee payment has been successful, candidates will be able to take the examination.

  • Candidates can make the payment through any of the following modes:

    • Netbanking

    • Credit Cards (Master/Visa)

    • Debit Cards (Master/Visa/Rupay)

  • Candidates will have to click on the drop-down button and select the mode of payment i.e. net banking, credit card, debit card, etc.

  • Candidates will have to enter details such as email address, mobile number, card type, name on the card, expiry date, CVV, etc.

  • The next step is to click on the 'Pay' tab.

Confirmation Page:

Candidates should print the acknowledgment receipt and keep a copy of the same with them for future use and they will also receive an email and SMS regarding successful submission of the application form.


Do I need to register before filling the IGNOU OPENMAT 2020 Application Form?

Yes, without registration you will not able to access the IGNOU OPENMAT 2020 Application Form.

Will my entered data get lost in case of internet connection interruption?

Since after every step you need to save the details, the data will not be lost.

What if my payment is deducted twice?

In such case, write to IGNOU authority at soms@ignou.ac.in with transaction details. Also. include your name, programme opted, mobile number etc.

Do I need to upload any documents in the IGNOU OPENMAT 2020 Application Form?

You need not upload any documents in the form.
