IGNOU OPENMAT is an entrance examination organised by Indira Gandhi National Open University. Organised twice a year, IGNOU OPENMAT is a gateway for admission into various Postgraduate Management Programmes offered by IGNOU. Candidates who qualify the exam become eligible to take admission in January or July semester. IGNOU OPENMAT 2018 XLIII (July Session) will be conducted on 24th June 2018.

IGNOU OPENMAT Eligibility Criteria

IGNOU OPENMAT eligibility norms are as follows:


There is no age limit set by IGNOU authorities to take the examination.


Not only Indian candidates, even foreign candidates are also eligible to take the exam.

Educational Details:

For Indian Candidates:

  • Candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline including Company Secretaryship/Chartered Accountancy/Cost Accountancy/ with 50% in aggregate for General category candidates and 45% aggregate for Reserved category(SC/ST/PwD) candidates as per Government of India rules.
  • If the candidates have valid CAT or MAT score, then it is not necessary that they take the IGNOU OPENMAT 2018 (XLIII).
  • Candidates can apply for the management exam on the basis of CAT or MAT scores.

For Foreign Nationals:

  • Foreign candidates living in India must have a valid student visa for the minimum period of the programme to become eligible for admission.
  • Candidates will be required to remit the fees as per IGNOU's fee requirements for foreign students.
  • Candidates will also be required to get clearance from the Ministry of External Affairs / Ministry of Human Resource Development. Their admission procedure will be conducted by the International Division of the University.

IGNOU OPENMAT 2018 (XLIII) exam pattern includes the marking scheme used by the university for the examination, the number of sections in the test, duration of the exam and the total number of questions asked in it.

  • The duration of IGNOU OPENMAT 2018 XLIII will be 3 hours and a total of 200 multiple choice questions will be asked.
  • Each section consists of the different number of questions.
  • All the questions in the exam paper will be compulsory.
  • The sections in the test will be General Awareness, English Language, and Quantitative Aptitude & Reasoning.

The IGNOU OPENMAT XLIII 2018 Result has been announced by IGNOU (short for Indira Gandhi National Open University) on 1st August 2018. Candidates who appeared in the examination on 24th June 2018 can check IGNOU OPENMAT result 2018 by submitting their nine-digit enrollment number.

Steps to Check IGNOU OPENMAT 2018 Result

  • Visit the official website of IGNOU.
  • Click on the link ‘Result of OPENMAT XLIII for Management Programme’.
  • A new page will open where another link will be provided 'OPENMAT XLIII RESULT(NEW)'.
  • Once you click on the link, a fresh page will open asking for your enrollment number.
  • Once you enter the number, click on 'Submit' and the result will appear on your screens.
  • Download the scorecard and take a printout for future use.

IGNOU OPENMAT 2018 Scorecard

IGNOU OPENMAT scorecard will be available in online mode from the official website of the university. The examination conducting authority will send it to the candidate’s registered address within 6 to 7 weeks from the date of examination. The scorecard will have details of the overall marks and subject-wise marks scored by the candidates along with their qualifying status. Depending on the score, candidates can be selected for MBA programmes.

Validity of Scores:

Candidates who pass on the basis of the marks secured in the entrance examination will become eligible for admission to the management programme in any of the two semesters. If a candidate qualifies the September session of IGNOU OPENMAT, he/she can take admission either in January semester or July 2018 semester. Similarly, those qualifying the February session can take admission either in July semester 2018 or January 2018 semester.


IGNOU OPENMAT cut-off is the minimum qualifying marks that candidates have to secure to qualify the examination and become eligible for the further admission process. Based on IGNOU OPENMAT 2018 cut-off score, candidates will be included in the final merit list. The cut-off of OPENMAT XLIII is expected to remain on similar lines as that of last year. On the basis of IGNOU OPENMAT cut-off, candidates will be selected for admission to MBA programmes.

The following factors will be taken into account at the time of deciding the cut-off:

  • Total number of candidates appearing in the examination
  • Total Number of seats available for the MBA programme
  • Highest score in the exam
  • Lowest and average score in exam
  • Community wise cutoff marks
  • Availability of seats
  • Reservation criteria

Please note that the cut-offs will vary for all courses and categories (if the reservation is counted).

IGNOU OPENMAT Counselling Process

After the announcement of IGNOU result, the IGNOU 2018 counselling process will be begin at the designated IGNOU Regional Center. On the basis of provisional merit list, candidates will be selected for the process of counselling.

The result card indicates whether the candidate qualified the entrance examination or not. There is a separate cut-off score through which the result of the candidate will be declared. The candidates who qualify in OPENMAT have to apply for admission through a specified Application Form. The candidates must attest the required documents with the application form and submit it to the Regional Director. Later, the candidates will be called for interview.

Ways to Apply For IGNOU Counselling:

  • The counselling schedule takes place as per the timetable designed by the Coordinator of Study Centre.
  • The counselling process generally takes place on weekdays, i.e., Saturday and Sunday.
  • Only shortlisted candidates on the basis of their merit list prepared and well arranged as Region wise are only eligible to appear for this procedure.
  • This process will be organised at the particular Regional Centre wherever- depending on the option given by the candidate in an entrance examination Form.
  • The number of candidates reported for Counselling can be more in number than the total number of seats available to fill the number of seats.
  • Counselling Committee consists of Regional Directors/ representatives belonging to concerned Regional Centre/s including two Nursing Experts of the same region for conducting counselling at the specified venue.
  • However, in case of the vacant seat left after the occurrence of 1st counselling, further counselling session may be conducted at the relevant Regional Centres.
  • If a candidate in a particular Regional Centre and having high rank does not get admission after allocation of fixed number seats on merit basis in that centre he/she cannot claim admission in any other Regional Centre where the candidates having comparatively lower rank gets admission as seat allotment will be done on the basis of region-wise merit list.

Documents Required for Counselling:

  • Counselling Letter
  • Admit Card
  • Two Passport Size Colour Photographs
  • Both original and photocopies of certificates and mark sheets from Class X to Graduation.
  • Caste Certificate (only for OBC/ SC/ ST)
  • An affidavit claiming authenticity of caster certificate ifOBC candidates do not belong to the creamy layer.
  • Original Migration Certificate
  • Demand draft for Rs. 15000/- as first-year admission fees to be drawn in favor of IGNOU, payable at specified regional centre.

How to Apply for IGNOU OPENMAT

The application form of IGNOU OPENMAT 2018 XLIII was issued by IGNOU in online mode. The IGNOU application form can be filled in both online and offline modes. IGNOU OPENMAT application form is the form applicants interested in the MBA programme must fill up in order to become eligible to appear in IGNOU OPENMAT to be conducted on 24th June 2018. Those qualifying in the exam have to then fill up IGNOU OPENMAT 2018 (XLIII) admission form in order to become eligible for admission to the MBA programme in either of the two semesters.

Online Application Process for IGNOU OPENMAT


  • The first step is Registration and generation of User ID and Password. Click on the tab “Register Online”.
  • After this, the drop-down list will display several options. Candidates must select the “Online Admission” tab.
  • This will be directed to the online admission system (OAS) homepage initiated by IGNOU University.
  • Here, candidates will have to click on the tab indicating “Register Yourself”.
  • Enter your basic details such as name, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, mobile number, email address, gender, nationality, and password.

Login and filling up of details:

  • In this step, the candidates will have to provide their choices of Programme type, Regional centre, Medium, Study centre code and State code.
  • After that, they must enter other details such as Employment status, Scholarship details, and Academic details,  and click on the 'Continue' tab.

Upload the Documents:

  • After submitting all the login credentials, the next step is to upload the scanned photographs/images and signature.
  • Candidates need to upload the scanned images of their recent photograph, signature in JPG format with size not more than 100KB.
  • After this, they must pay application fee of OPENMAT XLIII.
  • They must click on the 'Next' tab and you will be redirected to the payment page.

Payment of Fees:

  • Candidates will have to click on the drop-down button and select the mode of payment i.e. net banking, credit card, debit card, etc.
  • Candidates will have to enter details such as email address, mobile number, card type, name on the card, expiry date, CVV, etc.
  • The Application Fee is INR 1050/-.
  • The next step is to click on the 'Pay' tab.

Confirmation Page:

Candidates should print the acknowledgment receipt and keep a copy of the same with them for further references and also the candidates will receive an email and SMS regarding successful submission of application form.

Offline Application Process of IGNOU OPENMAT XLIII 2018

Candidates should take a printout of the form, fill up all the necessary details and send it via registered post/speed post along with the demand draft of Rs 1,050 drawn in favour of IGNOU from any nationalised bank to Registrar,
