Normalization Process of JEE Main 2024 Result

The process of normalization is used by various authorities to deal with the difficulty level since the JEE Main 2024 examination is conducted in multiple sessions. The scores of JEE Main 2024 which are normalized will indicate the percentile of candidates who have scored equal to or below the highest scores in that particular session. The formula for JEE Main 2024 normalization is given below:

Candidates must note that the normalized score of the JEE Main 2024 exam released by NTA is not similar to the percentage of marks obtained in the examination.

Formula - (100 x number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than the candidate) / total number of candidates who appeared in that session

What is NTA JEE Main 2024 Percentile Score?

JEE Main Result 2024 Session 1 is released in the form of percentile. The percentile score depends on the number of applicants showing up to attempt JEE Mains 2024. The score will be acquired in the wake of changing the scores into a scale going from 100 to 0 for every meeting of examinees.

As provided by their official website, "The Percentile Score indicates the number of candidates in a particular examination that scored equal or lower raw marks (same or lower actual scores) to a specific percentile. Therefore the highest scorer from any session receives a maximum score of 100 which is extremely desirable. Scores lower than the top score are likewise converted to best possible percentiles for scoring purposes."

Difference between Percentage and Percentile in JEE Main 2024

PercentagePercentile
A percentage is the number out of 100The percentile score of a particular candidate in an exam is how many of their classmates fell below that score. The percentile score is used to indicate how well you have performed in comparison with others.

How is JEE Main 2024 Result Percentile Calculated?

The NTA calculates the JEE Main session 1 result 2024 on a percentile basis. As the examination is held in multiple sessions, some students might get easier question sets while others might have to answer more difficult questions. To level the playing field, the NTA determines student scores based on a pre-determined algorithm for this exam to maintain fairness and an equitable system for admission into colleges of their choosing. This process is called normalisation.

JEE Main 2024 Inter-Se Merit List and Tie-breaking Rule

JEE Main 2024 Tie-breaking Rule refers to the formula for determining the marks of the candidates scored in the JEE Main 2024 entrance examination in case of a tie. The NTA looks after the cases of candidates scoring the same marks in JEE Main 2024. This is identified when the rank list of the qualified candidates is prepared. The list for Paper 1 (B.Tech and B.E) and Paper 2 (B.Arch and B.Planning) are prepared separately and then if the score of two or more candidates becomes the same, an inter-se merit list is prepared based on parameters defined by the exam conducting body. Candidates must also note that these parameters are different for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 of JEE Main 2024. Let’s check out the inter-se merit list factors planned out for the candidates securing the same score in the JEE Main Exam 2024.

How is JEE Main 2024 Rank / Merit List Prepared?

The All India Rank list is prepared by taking the best score of an applicant, out of all the sessions he/she has appeared. Candidates can check here to understand how ranks are calculated.

Step 1: Preparation of results of each session (January and April)

Once both the sessions of JEE Main 2024 have been conducted, the NTA will consider the scores of all the sessions (Paper 1, Paper 2A and Paper 2B). The best of all the JEE Mains score will be considered.

Step 2: Compilation of all overall percentile and preparation of merit/rank list

The best of all four percentile scores will be considered as the final NTA score. This will then be used for the compilation of results and preparation of over JEE Main 2024 Rank List.

Dear Student,

90 percentile in JEE Main is a very good percentile which can get you some of the prominent colleges like IIT Guwahati, IIT Indore, IIT Mandi, IIT Patna, or IIT Ropar) for various branches, depending on your category and branch preference. Top IITs like Bombay, Delhi, Madras, etc., might be more challenging but not impossible. You'll also have excellent opportunities for admission into top NITs like Warangal, Surathkal, Trichy, Raipur, Rourkela, Jamshedpur, etc., for various branches like CSE, EEE, IT, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, etc. with this percentile.
