Important Facts of JEE Main April Result 2024

  • The top 2,50,000 rank holders in the JEE Main 2024 Examination will be selected for the JEE Advanced 2024 Exam.

  • The Class 12 marks of candidates will not be considered for the calculation of the JEE Main normalised score.

  • JEE Main 2024 Cutoff will be prepared based on the normalised score calculation process.

  • The JEE Main 2024 scores will be used to prepare the All India Rank and State Merit lists, which will be further used to offer candidates seats in the IIITs, NITs, and GFTIs.

Normalization Process of JEE Main 2024 Result

The process of normalisation is used by various authorities to deal with the difficulty level since the JEE Main 2024 examination is conducted in multiple sessions. The scores of JEE Main 2024 which are normalised will indicate the percentile of candidates who have scored equal to or below the highest scores in that particular session. The formula which is used to calculate scores of NTA is given below:

Candidates must note that the normalised score of the JEE Main 2024 exam released by NTA is not similar to the percentage of marks obtained in the examination.

Formula - (100 x number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than the candidate) / total number of candidates who appeared in that session

How is JEE Main 2024 Result Percentile Calculated?

The NTA will calculate on a percentile basis the JEE 2024 Result. As the examination is held in multiple sessions, some students might get easier question sets while others might have to answer more difficult questions. To level the playing field, the NTA will determine student scores based on a pre-determined algorithm for this exam in order to maintain fairness and an equitable system for admission into colleges of their choosing. This process is called normalisation.

What is NTA JEE Main 2024 Percentile Score?

The percentile score depends on the number of applicants showing up to attempt JEE Mains 2024. The score will be acquired in the wake of changing the scores into a scale going from 100 to 0 for every meeting of examinees.

As provided by their official website, "The Percentile Score indicates the number of candidates in a particular examination that scored equal or lower raw marks (same or lower actual scores) to a specific percentile. Therefore the highest scorer from any session receives a maximum score of 100 which is extremely desirable. Scores lower than the top score are likewise converted to best possible percentiles for scoring purposes."

A percentage is the number out of 100The percentile score of a particular candidate in an exam is how many of their classmates fell below that score. The percentile score is used to indicate how well you have performed in comparison with others.

JEE Main 2024 Inter-Se Merit List and Tie-breaking Rule

JEE Main 2024 Tie-breaking Rule refers to the formula for determining the marks of the candidates scored in the JEE Main 2024 entrance examination in case of a tie. The NTA looks after the cases of candidates scoring the same marks in JEE Main 2024. This is identified when the rank list of the qualified candidates is prepared. The list for Paper 1 (B.Tech and B.E) and Paper 2 (B.Arch and B.Planning) are prepared separately and then if the score of two or more candidates becomes the same, an inter-se merit list is prepared based on parameters defined by the exam conducting body. Candidates must also note that these parameters are different for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 of JEE Main 2024. Let’s check out the inter-se merit list factors planned out for the candidates securing the same score in the JEE Main Exam 2024.

Paper 1 (B.Tech and B.E)

  • The first parameter is the marks scored in the Mathematics section of the paper. Candidates with a higher score in Mathematics will be ranked in a higher position on the list.

  • If there is a tie again, then, the marks of the Physics section will be considered as a tiebreaker. The higher the marks in Physics, the higher will be the rank of the candidate.

  • In case if the candidates manage to match up all the marks, then the board will then consider the number of positive and negative marks obtained by the candidates. The one with the higher positive marks or absolute value will rank up than the other with less number of positive marks.

  • If this parameter also fails, then both candidates will be awarded the same rank in the inter-se merit list.

Paper 2 (B.Arch and B.Planning)

  • The first consideration will be the marks scored by the comparing candidates in the Aptitude Section of Paper 2. Test takers scoring higher marks in the Aptitude section will be marked up in the inter-se merit list.

  • If this determinant fails to clarify the tie, then the marks of the Drawing section will be considered and the one scoring more in this section will be ranked up in the list.

  • The ratio of the positive and negative marks will be the third consideration in case the top two factors fall to be the same. The one with a higher absolute value will be ranked up in the inter-se merit list.

  • If all of the above parameters are the same, then both candidates will be given equal rank on the list.

Difference between JEE Main Percentage and Percentile Score

When it comes to the JEE Main percentage and percentile, many candidates get confused and take them in common, while they are different in nature. The JEE Main percentage is the result of absolute marking while the percentile is calculated through relative marking.

Percentage(100 x Marks obtained by candidate) / Total marks
Percentile(100 x Number of candidates in the session with aggregate marks less than that obtained by the candidate) / Total number of candidates appeared in that session.
