About SMIT B.Tech 2018

Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, popularly known as SMIT,  organises  and entrance exam for admission to its B.Tech courses. The authority will organise the SMIT offline entrance test on 29th April 2018. Apart from this examination, SMIT B.Tech admission will also be done on the basis of marks obtained in MAHE OET 2018 (previously known as MU OET) and JEE Main 2018.

SMIT B.Tech 2018 Eligibility Criteria

SMIT B.Tech eligibility criteria comprise of all the conditions that candidates must fulfill in order to become eligible for the exam. The conditions could be related to minimum educational qualifications, age limit, domicile requirements, or a minimum pass percentage in the qualifying exam. Candidates satisfying the eligibility criteria of SMIT B.Tech 2018 are considered eligible to appear for the exam, whereas candidates not meeting the SMIT B.Tech 2018 are not allowed to appear for the entrance exam.

Entrance Exams

Candidates should have cleared any of the following examinations:

  • MAHE OET (MU OET) 2018

  • JEE Main 2018

  • SMIT B.Tech offline Test 2018

Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination can also apply for the entrance exam.

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates should have passed their class 12 examination or equivalent exam with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Computer Science/Informatics Practices/Biotechnology/ Biology.


  • Candidates should have a Diploma in any branch of engineering awarded by a State Board of Technical Education.

  • Candidate appearing in qualifying examination may also apply for the entrance examination.

Percentage of marks in the qualifying exams

  • Candidates belonging to General category must score at least 50% aggregate marks in their class 12with above mentioned subjects.

  • Candidates belonging to reserved category(SC/ST/OBC) should score at least 45% aggregate marks in their class 12 with above mentioned subjects.


  • Candidates with Diploma require a minimum 50% aggregate marks for General category candidates and minimum 45% marks for reserved (SC/ ST/ OBC) candidates.

Note: Candidates from Bhutan and Nepal are also eligible to appear in SMIT B.Tech offline Test. If selected, the admission is given under General Category.

SMIT B.Tech 2018 Exam Pattern

Candidates can go through the exam pattern of SMIT 2018 to know all the details of the entrance examination. The SMIT B.Tech 2018 is going to be conducted in offline mode. Before appearing for the entrance exam, candidates must get a complete understanding of the SMIT B.Tech 2018 exam pattern.

  • The total duration of SMIT B.Tech 2018 is 90 minutes.

  • The questions are of objective type, multiple choice based.

  • The questions are based on 12th level Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and English.

  • A total of 200 questions are asked in the examination.

  • Every question is followed by 4 alternative responses suggested as answers, out of which the best answer should be chosen.

  • Candidates are provided an OMR answer sheet where they have to mark their responses.

SMIT B.Tech 2018 Result

SMIT is expected to issue SMIT B.Tech 2018 results on 7th May, 2018. The result of SMIT B.Tech 2018 will consist of ranks of the candidates. The ranks of the candidates will be determined on the basis of the total marks scored by them in the SMIT 2018 offline entrance exam.

Candidates who will appear in JEE Main 2018 should submit their JEE Main 2018 scores by fax or e-mail as soon as the JEE Main results are announced. Candidates will have to send the downloaded scorecard, along with a photocopy of the original application form already sent, in order to be eligible for the counseling process.

In such cases, the following steps will be taken:

  • Candidate who receive more marks in Mathematics will be ranked higher.

  • If the tie still remains, then, the candidate who scores more marks in Chemistry followed by Physics will be ranked higher.

  • Log on to the official website of SMIT B.Tech 2018.

  • Click on the link ‘SMIT B.Tech 2018 Result’ tab and you will be automatically directed to the login page, where you will have to provide your login credentials in order to download your result.

  • Enter your Roll number, Registration number, Date of birth and Password.

  • After that, click on 'Submit' tab.

  • The result of SMIT B.Tech 2018 will be shown on the screen.

  • Download the result and take a printout for the further process.

The SMIT will organise the SMIT B.Tech counselling of different categories on different dates. The counselling of SMIT B.Tech admission 2018 will be organised in two stages.

  • First stage of SMIT B.Tech counselling process will be organised from 24th May, 2018 for candidates who appear in SMIT B.Tech 2018 offline test.

  • The second stage of SMIT B.Tech counselling 2018 will be organised on 2nd June, 2018 for JEE Main 2018 and MAHE OET (MUOET) 2018 eligible candidates.

Counselling Procedure

  • The physical presence of the candidate at the counselling is mandatory.

  • If a candidate is unable to show up for the counselling process due to unavoidable circumstances, he/she may authorise another person to represent him/her at the counselling.

  • Candidates should take all the documents and full fee of admission at the time of counselling.

  • Absence of the candidate or his/her representative at the reporting time and date will result in instantaneous forfeiture of any claim for a seat.

  • The choice of course made by the candidate/ representative will be final and binding and will not be changed in any situation.

  • In the counselling room, only the candidate/representative will be allowed.

  • Candidates will be called in the order of their ranks and offered the seats available at that time.

  • Candidates will be allowed to select any of the seats available during their turn.

  • When all seats are filled in a given course, candidates will have the option to choose to be in the wait list. Candidates will be wait listed as per their rank order in the counselling.

  • Candidates may opt for one programme as well as join waiting list for other courses. Such candidates will have to pay the fee for the courses to which they are admitted.

  • Failure to pay the fee will result in the cancellation of their seats.

  • On selection of the courses for which they are on the waiting list, these candidates will have to pay the difference in fees, if any.

  • Candidates who opt only to be wait listed do not have to pay any fee until they get selection notice from the institute.

How to Apply for SMIT B.Tech 2018

SMIT B.Tech application form 2018 is available in online as well as offline modes. The application form for SMIT B.Tech Admission was issued by Sikkim Manipal University on 18th December, 2017. The last date for filling the application form is 21st April, 2018. Therefore, candidates willing to appear for the entrance exam must fill the SMIT B.Tech 2018 application form before the deadline.

Note: Those who are planning to take admission through JEE Main 2018 or MAHE OUT (previously known as MU OET) 2018, also have to fill and submit SMIT B.Tech application form.

In Online Mode

Candidate applying online are required to visit the official website of SMIT i.e.


  • Click on the 'SMU Admission' tab and select drop down menu for online registration.

  • Candidates have to enter the following details on the registration page and click on the declaration box and then click on ‘Register’ button to fill their Name, Address, City, State, Country, Pin code, E-mail address, Mobile number, Course applying form, Security code.

  • After filling the requisite information, candidates have to confirm the same via OTP.

  • OTP is sent to the candidates' registered E-mail address and Mobile number.

  • After that, candidates have to click on the URL sent to the e-mail address.

  • Candidates have to purchase the application form by paying INR 800 online.

  • Upon successful payment of application fee, candidates are provided with Application number and Password that they have to use to log in and fill SMIT B.Tech application form.

Filling of Application Form

  • In this step, candidates have to enter their personal details such as Name, Date of birth, Gender, Nationality, Caste,  Religion, Category, Father's Name, Mother's name.

  • Also, candidates must provide their Educational details such as Board Name, Year, Total Marks, Marks obtained, Percentage, School Name and Communication details.

Uploading of Documents:

  • Candidates have to upload their recently clicked Passport size Photograph and Signature in JPG format and the maximum size of the file can be 200 KB and dimension can be 200 x 200 pixels.

Payment of Application Fee:

  • The application fee of SMIT B.Tech can be paid through the Credit card / Debit card / Net banking.

  • The application fee is INR 800/-.

  • Candidates applying for admission through other entrance examination are not required to pay any additional fee.

Download the Application Form:

  • After successfully filling the application form, candidates are advised to take a printout of the application form and keep it safe for further rounds.

In Offline Mode

  • Candidates have to download the application form from the official website of SMIT and then fill the details in their own handwriting using Black/Blue ball pen in capital letters.

  • After downloading the SMIT B.Tech 2018 application form, candidates have to provide all the details such as their Personal and Educational details.

  • Candidates have to paste their Passport size Photograph and it should not be more than 3 months old.

  •  Candidates have to pay the application fee of INR 800/- through Demand Draft drawn in favour of 'Sikkim Manipal University' payable at Gangtok.

  • After filling the application form, candidates have to send it by post at the University address. Candidates have to mention the Application numbers and their Names on the back side of the Demand Draft.
