UGC NET Conducting Body

UGC NET is organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA) from December 2018. The National Testing Agency (NTA) was established by the Union Government of India to conduct national-level entrance examinations across the country. Prior to the inception of the NTA, UGC NET Examination was administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Until June 2018, CBSE used to conduct the UGC NET. Previous to that, UGC NET was organized by the UGC's National Educational Testing Bureau.

UGC NET 2025 Eligibility Criteria

The basic criteria that candidates must fulfil to meet UGC NET Eligibility 2025 are mentioned below in terms of the age limit and qualification:

UGC NET 2025 Age Limit

  • Candidates should not be more than 30 years of age to be eligible for JRF.
  • There is no age restriction for applying for the post of Assistant Professor.
  • A relaxation of five years inthe  age criteria is given to reserved category candidates.

UGC NET 2025 Educational Qualification

  • Candidates should have completed a four-year graduation with 75% marks from a UGC-recognized college/university to be eligible for NET.
  • A relaxation of five per cent is given to candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), differently-abled, economically weaker sections, and other categories.
  • Candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) before June 1, 2002, are exempted from taking the UGC NET exam.

UGC NET Admit Card 2025

With the application number and date of birth, the UGC NET Admit Card for June 2025 can be downloaded from the UGC NET official website. By logging into the account that was created while filling out the UGC NET application form, candidates can download their admit cards. UGC NET Result 2025

UGC NET 2025 results can be downloaded by individual candidates from the official website of the authority through their login credentials. The result shall contain their performance in the examination. The authority will not send the results to the candidates individually through post or other offline means. The result of UGC NET contains paper-wise and overall marks scored in the exam by the individual candidate, along with percentages obtained.

Based on their scores, candidates shall know their qualifying status for the posts of JRF and Assistant Professor across the country. Candidates can check their results by following the steps mentioned below:

UGC NET 2025 selection process begins with the release of the official notification. The UGC NET notification is the first official document that gives information regarding the exam, such as exam dates, eligibility criteria, exam pattern, syllabus, and others. Career Prospects After UGC NET Exam

After qualifying UGC NET Examination, the candidates can serve in the following positions:

UGC NET 2025 E-Certificate Criteria

UGC NET 2025 exam qualifiers will be awarded an E-Certificate by the UGC. To clear the UGC NET exam, General Categoy candidate is required to atleast score 40% marks and Reserved Category candidate is required to score at least 35% marks. Not all candidates who score the mentioned score will be eligible for the E-certificate. Candidates also need to score passing marks as per the cutoff. Only the top 6% of candidates who passed the UGC NET exam will be eligible for the E-certificate. Passing Marks criteria for the UGC NET 2025 exam are mentioned in the following table:

What is the minimum eligibility criteria to apply for UGC NET exam?

General category candidates should have obtained a four-year bachelor's degree with a minimum of 75% marks and SC/ ST/ OBC/ PwD category must possess at least 70% marks (without rounding off) from a UGC-recognized university. Candidates may also apply if they plan to take the qualifying examination or are awaiting the results. However, students must finish their UG programme within two years of the UGC NET result date. PhD holders who have finished their Master's degree are eligible for a 5% aggregate mark relaxation. 

What is the validity of UGC NET eligibility certificate?

The UGC NET Assistant Professor Eligibility Certificate is valid for a lifetime. The UGC NET JRF award letter, however, has a three-year validity period. People who pass the NET test are eligible to serve as assistant professors at colleges and universities in India. For candidates who pass the UGC JRF exam, the Indian government will fund their PhD studies, and they will also be qualified for assistant professorships.

What is the age limit to apply for UGC NET exam?

To qualify for NTA NET JRF, the age of the applicants cannot be more than 30 years. There is no minimum age requirement to apply for the position of assistant professor. Candidates from the reserved categories are allowed a five-year age relaxation.

How many times is UGC NET conducted in a year?

The UGC NET exam is conducted twice a year. The next session will be held in December. Candidates will require a scanned copy of their photo ID card, a recent photograph, and their signature to register for the UGC NET exam. The image should be larger than or equal to 20 kb but smaller than 200 kb, and the signature should be larger than or equal to 4 kb but smaller than 30 kb.

When will the UGC NET June 2025 exam be conducted?

UGC NET exam will start from June 25 to June 29, 2025. The UGC NET 2025 Notification for the June session was released on April 16, 2025.
