IIT JAM 2026 Notification: Application Procedure

According to the official IIT JAM 2026 notification, the application process will commence on September 5, 2025, and conclude on October 12, 2025. Applications must be submitted through the official portal: jam2026.iitb.ac.inThe application correction window is scheduled to open in November 2025. IIT JAM 2026 application process involves registering on JOAPS.

  • Registration on JOAPS: Provide your name, e-mail address, an active mobile number, and set a password. After registration, you will receive an Enrollment ID and OTP on your email and mobile number. Use this Enrollment ID or your email, along with the password, to login and submit your application.
  • Application Submission: Through the JOAPS interface, you can:
    • Submit your application online.
    • Upload required documents (photograph, signature, category certificates, etc.).
    • Pay the application fee using electronic payment methods.
    • Track your application status, such as Submitted, Under Scrutiny, Accepted, or any Defect Status.
    • Download your admit card once it’s released.

IIT JAM Notification 2026: Details Required for Filling the Application Form

Make sure to have the following details ready before filling out IIT JAM 2026 application form:

  • Personal information (name, e-mail, date of birth, mobile number, etc.).
  • Communication address, including PIN code.
  • Details of your qualifying degree.
  • College/Institute/University name and address.
  • Choice of JAM paper(s) and examination cities.
  • Scanned copies of necessary documents:
    • 10th standard mark sheet.
    • Photograph and signature as per specifications.
    • Category certificate (OBC-NCL/EWS/SC/ST) if applicable.
    • Physical Disability Certificate or Unique Disability Identification (UDID) certificate, if applicable.
  • Details of a Photo ID (Aadhaar, Driving License, PAN Card, Passport, or Voter ID).
  • Payment details (Net banking/Debit card/Credit card/UPI).

IIT JAM Notification 2026: Application Fee for JAM 2025

The application fee for IIT JAM 2026 must be paid online only. Students need to complete the payment through net banking, debit card, credit card, or UPI. Before making the payment, students are advised to review their application by clicking the “Save and View” button. The application fee structure is as follows:

IIT JAM 2026 Notification: Exam Pattern

According to the official IIT JAM 2026 notification, the exam will be conducted for seven subjects, also known as Test Papers. These subjects include:

  • Biotechnology (BT)
  • Chemistry (CY)
  • Economics (EN)
  • Geology (GG)
  • Mathematics (MA)
  • Mathematical Statistics (MS)
  • Physics (PH)

IIT JAM 2026 exam will be conducted in English language only and will follow a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format. The questions will appear on the screen in random order. The duration of the exam is three hours. Eligible PwD students may receive one-hour compensatory time and assistance from a scribe, as per Government of India guidelines.

IIT JAM 2026 exam pattern consists of a total of 60 questions, carrying 100 marks overall. It will be divided into three sections: A, B, and C, all of which are compulsory. Each section features different types of questions:

  1. Section A
    • Contains 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
    • 10 questions carry 1 mark each, and 20 questions carry 2 marks each.
    • Each question has four answer choices, with only one correct option.
    • Negative marking applies: 1/3 mark deduction for each wrong 1-mark question and 2/3 mark deduction for each wrong 2-mark question.
  2. Section B
    • It includes 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), each carrying 2 marks.
    • MSQs can have one or more correct answers.
    • Full marks are awarded only when all correct options are selected, and no wrong options are chosen.
    • There is no negative or partial marking for MSQs.
  3. Section C
    • Contains 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
    • 10 questions carry 1 mark each, and 10 questions carry 2 marks each.
    • The answer must be a signed real number entered using the virtual numeric keypad.
    • No answer choices are provided, and there is no negative marking for NAT questions.

This pattern ensures a mix of multiple-choice, multiple-select, and numerical answer questions across all sections.

IIT JAM Notification 2026: Admit Card

As mentioned on the IIT JAM Notification 2026,IIT JAM 2026 Admit Cardwill be available for download via the JOAPS portal on January 5, 2026 (tentative). IIT JAM Admit Card 2026 contains important details such as:

  • Name of the student
  • Registration Number
  • Photograph and Signature
  • Name and Code of the Test Paper
  • Allotted Test Centre Name and Address

It is important to note that admit cards will not be sent by post or email. One must download and print the Admit Card (preferably in color) and bring it to the exam center along with a valid, original photo ID.

IIT JAM Notification 2026: Scorecard and Merit Lists

IIT JAM 2026 results will be announced on March 20, 2026, on the official website. Given below is the structure of the scorecard and release of merit lists:

  • All India Rank: Each student will receive an All India Rank or AIR based on their performance in the respective test paper.
  • Tie-Breaking Criteria: In case two or more students have the same total marks in a test paper, the tie will be resolved by applying the following criteria, in order:
    • Lower negative marks.
    • Higher NAT marks.
    • Higher MSQ marks.
    • Better score in 2-mark questions.
    • Higher score in 2-mark NAT questions.
    • If a tie persists, the older candidate (based on Date of Birth) will be ranked higher.
  • All-India Merit List: A merit list will be prepared for each test paper based on the AIR. The number of students on this list will correspond to the available seats for each category (General, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, PwD) in the respective subject. Students who make it to the IIT JAM 2026 merit list will be eligible to apply for admission to relevant academic programs.
  • Scorecard Availability: Qualified ones can download their scorecards from the JAM 2026 website. The scorecard will display both the AIR and the student’s obtained marks. The scorecards will not be sent by post.
