IIT JAM 2021 Eligibility Criteria

IIT JAM 2021 eligibility criteria for all candidates who wish to apply for M.Sc. (two-year), Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, and other Post-Bachelor's Degree programmes is available here. The eligibility criteria will be different for the different programmes offered by the IIT JAM 2021 participating institutes. If a candidate is not found eligible as per the eligibility norms, their admissions will be cancelled. Candidates must make sure that they can check the eligibility criteria carefully before filling the IIT JAM 2021 application form.

IIT JAM 2021 General Eligibility Rules

The general eligibility rules pertaining to IIT JAM 2021 can be checked below -

Nationality
  • Indian and foreign national candidates can apply for IIT JAM 2021. However, the foreign nationals will need to satisfy the rules and regulations of the Admitting Institute(s) related to the foreign students.
Age Criteria
  • There is no restriction in the upper or lower age limit for IIT JAM.
Qualifying Exam
  • Candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in any stream from a recognised institute or university.
  • Candidates appearing in the final year of their graduation can also apply for the examination.
Minimum Marks
  • A candidate belonging to General/OBC-NCL category and Foreign Nationals category must have 55% marks in his/her bachelor's degree.

  • For a candidate from SC/ST and PwD category, 50% marks in graduation is the requirement.

  • The proportion of marks in percentage will be adjusted by admitting colleges for those candidates having CGPA/ Letter Grades.

  • All the documents like qualifying bachelor's degree, Matriculation and 10+2 qualifying document should be submitted by September 30, 2021.

Reservation Policy
  • For General/OBC (NCL) category the minimum marks will be 55% marks or 5.5 out of 10 aggregate in languages and subsidiaries of all the years combined.

  • For SC/ST category the minimum marks will be 50% or 5.0 out of 10 aggregate.

Medical Criteria:

  • Candidates with or Uni-ocularity and color blindness are not eligible to apply.

  • For doing fieldwork, candidates in the PwD category should be able to walk without any assistance.

Note: If a candidate is found to have furnished wrong details, the admitting institute has the authority to cancel the admission at any time.

What after Eligibility?

Candidates must check the IIT JAM 2021 eligibility criteria given above and check if the candidate satisfies the eligibility criteria of IIT JAM. So after checking the eligibility criteria, the candidates will have to read the instruction which guides the applicants for the application process. Then following the instruction the candidates will have to apply for IIT JAM and wait for the admit cards which have to be released.  

The IIT JAM registration process will soon commence. Applicants who wish to take admission in M.Sc in different IITs and IISc institutes will have to appear for the JAM 2021. This examination is conducted mainly for candidates who wish to pursue higher education in Science subjects and wants to do joint dual degree M.Sc - PhD will have to first check the eligibility criteria and then apply for the examination.
