IIT JAM Merit List 2024 will be released after the exam result is out. The IIT JAM 2024 Merit List will be prepared based on the candidate's performance for the selection process. IIT JAM 2024 Merit List will be released for each category and programme. For individuals who score marks above the cutoff marks, the name of that candidate is there in the IIT JAM Merit List 2024. If the candidates' name is there on the merit list of IIT JAM 2024 then only they can fill out the IIT JAM 2024 Admission form and can participate in the counseling process of IIT JAM 2024. 

For each Test Paper, an All India Merit list is prepared based on AIR. The number of candidates included in the All India Merit List will depend on the total number of seats available in each category (GEN, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, and PwD) in a given subject. These candidates (henceforth called Qualified Candidates) are eligible to apply for admission to any of the corresponding academic programmes. 

The test takers of the IIT JAM 2024 entrance examination can check and download their IIT JAM Scorecard 2024. The candidates can use their enrolment Id and password to log in and download the scorecard. IIT JAM 2024 Merit List mentions important details such as the candidate’s name, the total number of test-takers, test paper name and code, All India Rank (AIR), qualifying marks as per the different categories and registration number, and marks scored by the candidate in IIT JAM 2024.

The steps to access IIT JAM 2024 merit list is given below:

1. Visit the official website of IIT JAM and click on the link IIT JAM result 2024

2. In the new window, enter IIT JAM 2024 credentials like enrolment Id and Password in the respective text boxes.

3.  Click on the “Submit” option for IIT JAM 2024 Merit List

4. The IIT JAM 2024 merit list will be displayed on the screen in PDF format which should be downloaded by the candidates for future use

Aspirants with a higher ratio of positive marks to negative marks will be awarded a higher rank in the IIT JAM exam. If this criterion does not break ties, the students concerned will be provided with the same rank.

• IIT JAM 2024 was conducted for 7 papers like previous years. The seven subjects for which IIT JAM Merit list 2024 will be prepared include Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Biotechnology, Mathematics Statistics, and Economics. 
• The number of candidates shortlisted in the merit list will further depend on the number of seats that are available in each category- OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, PwD in each subject.
• The eligibility of the candidates representing different categories will be as per their declaration in the Application Form.

The committee considers following important measures while preparing IIT JAM 2024 Merit list:

• One mark is awarded for each correct answer.
• Two marks are awarded for questions with a 2- mark weightage
• ⅓ Marks are deducted for each incorrect answer for questions with 1 mark weightage while ⅔ marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer for the questions that carry 2-marks.

What after IIT JAM 2024 Merit List?

Once the IIT JAM 2024 Merit list will be published, the candidates are expected to follow the below-mentioned steps to take admission in different IITs and IISc in their choice of course and colleges through IIT JAM 2024.

• The candidates who qualify IIT JAM 2024 exam as per the declared merit list are required to fill the admission form online that will be made available on the JOAPS portal. This is regardless of the specific institutes that candidates are applying for.
• Candidates before filling out the admission form must ensure that they have referred to the list of admitting institutes and departments.
• The candidates can apply for more than one academic program which will be based on the test papers qualified by the candidates and also meeting the eligibility criteria of the institutions.
• Candidates after log in to the JOAPS portal will have to enter all the essential information that is required along with their educational qualifications. They will also have to submit a processing fee of INR 600.
• Depending on the availability of the seats, the admission list of first, second, and third round is prepared. The fourth list will be the final admission list for all the vacant seats for IIT JAM 2024.
• The candidates will have to submit an acceptance form and advanced seat booking of INR 10000 for general category candidates and INR 5000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

What is the Difficulty level of IIT JAM?

The level of difficulty for IIT JAM is usually high because of increasing demand for the limited seats that are available through IIT JAM 2023. There has been a constant rise in the number of candidates who appear in IIT JAM. As per the application from records, around 63,000 candidates are expected to appear in IIT JAM 2023. One can refer to the details related to IIT JAM seats as mentioned below:

• In IIT JAM 2022, the total number of candidates who appeared for the chemistry paper was 14473. The total seats available were only 1223, hence making the selection ratio of 8.45%.
• 42 seats have been reduced this year as compared to last year despite the increase in number of candidates every year for IIT JAM. In 2021, the total number of seats offered was 2884 while the total number of seats offered in IIT JAM 2023 is 2802.
• As per experts and previous year’s analysis, the level of difficulty for Physics, Biotechnology, and Mathematical statistics was moderate. 
• Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, and Geology conducted in Slot 2, also had a moderate difficulty level. However, many students found it difficult compared to previous years.
