CLAT Application Form

The CLAT application form is released online on the official website. Before beginning with the CLAT application process, candidates must check if they qualify the CLAT Eligibility Criteria. The main stages of the CLAT application process are - candidate registration, filling out the application form, paying the application cost, uploading the necessary documents and submitting the form. Candidates must carefully fill in the fields of the online form and cross-check the data thoroughly before clicking on the submit button. Candidates who have cleared class 12 with at least 45 per cent aggregate marks are eligible to apply for the CLAT UG exam. On the other hand, candidates who have an LL.B degree are eligible to apply for CLAT PG.

Pre-Requisites for CLAT Application Form

Enlisted below are the pre-requisite details and documents required to fill up the CLAT application form.

  • A valid email address and contact details
  • A computer system/ laptop with good internet connectivity 

  • A recent photograph in the prescribed size and format

  • Mark-sheets or Degree certificates (10th, 12th and graduation or any other higher qualification).

  • Scanned copy of caste certificate (for SC/ ST/ SAP candidates) in PDF format only.

  • Domicile Certificate in support of candidate's claim for consideration under State Quota.

  • Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking details for online fee payment of CLAT.

Step by Step Process to Apply for CLAT

The detailed process to fill the CLAT application form is given below -

Step 1: Registration

  • Visit the official website of CLAT.

  • Click on 'New Registration' under 'Registration Info' section.

  • Register yourself by providing the details asked.

  • Enter the required details including Name, Parents' Name, Date of Birth, and Email Id.

  • A Provisional Registration No. and Password will be sent to the registered email and mobile. Use these credentials to log in to fill the online application.

  • You are now ready to log in and get access to the CLAT Application Form.

Step 2: Fill the Application Form

  • In this step, you have to fill in the following details in the CLAT application form:

  • Personal details such as date of Birth, Gender, Age, Nationality, Marital status, Parents’ Name, and Correspondence Address, postal address, Contact details.

  • Programme choice - Undergraduate or Postgraduate

  • Education Details such as class 10, Class 12, UG/ PG marks, etc.

  • Enter the State of Residence, the State of Domicile, State of Nativity, Disability (if applicable), University Category, Exam City Preference, etc.

  • Note: You have to fill your preference order for all nineteen NLUs.The same preferential choices will be considered during CLAT Counselling.

  • After that, you have to upload scanned documents in the prescribed format and size.

Step 3: Upload Documents

  • You have to upload your documents and scanned images of your recent passport-sized photograph in the prescribed format and size as adhering to the guidelines provided below:

    • Photograph: Applicant has to upload their scanned photocopy of the front-facing recent passport-size photograph. 

    • Signature: Applicant has to upload their scanned photocopy of the Signature.

    • The scanned copy of the certificate in PDF format issued by the competent authority to support the claim of Specially Abled Persons (SAP). 

Specification for Signature and Photograph:

Photograph Specification:

  • The photograph should be in colour and must have been taken in a professional studio.

  • File size should be more than 20 KB and less than or equal to 50 KB.

  • Resolution for JPEG: 200 x 230 Pixels

  • The photograph should have a white or very light background.

  • The photograph must not be a recent one.

  • In the photograph, the length of the face (between the chin and the top of the forehead) should cover up to 50% of the length of the photograph.

  • The candidate's photograph with glare on glasses or with spectacles will not be acceptable.

Signature Specification: 

  • Design a rectangular box having a size of 7 cm × 2 cm (Width x Height) on an A4 sheet of paper. The signature has to be in black or dark blue ink pen in the required box.

  • Signature's digital image must be scanned by a professional using a scanner.

  • The scanned photograph must have:

    • Dimensions: 140x 60 Pixels

    • File size should be more than 10 KB and less than or equal to 20 KB.

  • Signature images taken from mobile phones or from digital cameras are not allowed. 

Note: The photograph and signature of the applicant need not be attested while submitting the Online Application Form.

  • You can preview the application form, edit or modify the necessary changes in the application, using the 'Edit/Update' tab.

  • If no other changes are required in the CLAT application form,  you can go for the fee payment page, before submitting the CLAT application form.

Step 4: Pay CLAT Application Fees

  • The application fee can be paid online or by bank challan generated online. 

    • In Online Mode:

      • The fee can be paid using a Debit/ Credit card/ net banking/ pay wallet/ RuPay etc. 

      • The Bank Transaction Charges may vary depending on the payment option selected.

    • In Offline Mode (by bank challan):

      • The payment of the application fee can be made after registering the application online and generating the challans online. 

      • The printout of the challans generated has to be taken to the relevant bank for payment over the counter. 

      • Offline payments are to be made in cash only.

  • The application fee is non-refundable.

Step 5: Download the Application Form

  • After completing the application online payment, the candidate will be able to download the application form with the detail of the fee payment in PDF format. 

  • The candidate must save a printout for further use. 

  • No printout of the CLAT application form is needed to be sent to CLAT Office.

Note: 

  • If the data in the application form of a candidate is found false or does not meet the mentioned eligibility criteria, his/her application will be cancelled by the conducting Institute.

  • The original educational documents must be submitted to the university by the candidate at the time of admission. 

  • The photograph and signature of the candidate need not be attested.

Mandatory Documents:

  • Scanned photocopies of the certificate of impairment in a PDF format for Specially Abled Persons (SAP).

  • The documents/ certificates are mandatory for admission to both UG and PG courses.

CLAT Application Form Correction

Here are the steps to edit the CLAT application form. Please note only selective fields can be corrected during the CLAT application form editing window. 

  • Candidates have to log in to the applicant portal on the official website.
  • Then they must click on the "Print Application" button and review the details to confirm if they are accurate.
  • If the aspirants need to make some changes, then they must click the "Edit Application" button.
  • Once they make the necessary changes, then they must go through the application form carefully and hit the "Submit Form" button.

CLAT Application Fee

The application process of CLAT is incomplete unless the application fee has been paid. Candidates can submit the CLAT application fee online through a credit card, debit card, or net banking. If the fee is not submitted before the deadline, the CLAT application form of the candidate will not be accepted and he / she will not be allowed to appear for the exam.

CLAT Exam Centre Preference Editing

Here are the basic steps to edit the preferences for the CLAT exam centres. Please note any further requests beyond the deadline for updating the test location will not be entertained by the authorities.

  • Candidates have to log in to their CLAT account on the official homepage.
  • They have to hit down the “Edit Application” button and move to the “Preferences” tab.
  • They must check their preferences for the test centres and update if needed.
  • In the subsequent step, the aspirants have to click the “Next” button and move to the “Reservation” tab.
  • Aspirants have to move down the page, agree to the given declaration, and submit the form.

Steps to Recover CLAT Login Password

If an individual has forgotten or lost CLAT log-in password, he/she has to visit the registered account. The steps provided below need to be followed to recover the CLAT Login Password.

Step 1: Visit the official website of CLAT Consortium.

Step 2: Select on 'Log-in' option.

Step 3: Next, click on 'Forgot Password?'. 

Step 4: A new window will pop-up on the screen.

Step 5: Enter your registered mobile number and click on 'Request OTP'.

Step 6: After receiving the OTP, select the option that says 'Reset Password'.

Step 7: Enter the registered mobile number, received OTP and new password.

Step 8: Click on 'Change Password'.

Your password will be changed and an e-mail will be received on the registered e-mail address regarding the same.

  • Candidates do not have to send the hard copy of the CLAT Application Form to the Consortium Office.
  • It is not a compulsion to complete the entire CLAT Application Process in one go. Applicants can save the application form at any point and come back to continue filling it.
  • Application correction of CLAT application form is sometimes not available so candidates need to be extra careful while saving and submitting it.
  • All the spellings and information need to be the same as that on the certificates/ mark sheets/ identity proof. Any changes or misinformation can lead to disqualification of candidature.
  • All the information or details provided by the applicants must be correct and authentic.
  • Once the application form has been submitted, no changes in the preference order for the NLUs is allowed.
  • If an individual fills more than 1 CLAT application form, only the last online application form is considered.
  • The application fee is non-refundable.
