Top Do’s for NID DAT 2024

Enlisted below are certain do’s for NID DAT 2024 that you must keep in mind to ensure that the exam goes well.

  • Prepare a Time-Table: However, cliche it may sound, chalking out exam timetables or a study plan is the first step for NID DAT preparation. It helps in managing your time and strategizing properly for your exam.
  • Go through the Syllabus and Exam Pattern: Check out the entire NID DAT syllabus carefully. Make sure to cover each important topic in the syllabus as questions may crop up from anywhere. Going through the NID DAT exam pattern also helps in understanding the nature of the exam and making better strategies.
  • Pick up Reliable Books: Instead of choosing any random NID DAT best books, go for a well-known book from a reliable source (author/publisher). Also, check if the books are of the latest edition as the old books often have outdated and misleading information.
  • Practice Sketching: Take references and pick out designing exercises regularly. Study the dimensions, size, form and consistency of the figure and try to incorporate it in your work. Be original and focus on thinking creatively.
  • Identify Strengths and Weaknesses: Giving equal attention and time to each topic is never the right strategy. Identify your strengths and weaknesses and divide time accordingly. Invest more energy in topics that require more work and study.
  • Keep a Tab on General Knowledge: Keep a close eye on the latest developments and occurrences in the design world. Keep a tab on the general and current affairs. Keep reading newspapers and magazines. Download the applications that keep notifying the happenings around the world.
  • Carry your Admit Card: The Admit card is a vital document without which a candidate will not be allowed to sit for the exam. To eradicate any last-minute hassles, download the NID DAT 2024 admit card and take multiple copies of it so that you are sorted. Also, carry identity proof as it is required for verification.
  • Keep your Stationery: Stationery materials such as a Ruler, Eraser, Sharpener, Black ballpoint pen (to mark the answers in the OMR sheet) and Lead pencils (of varying grades) must be kept aside so that no last-minute rush is encountered during the exam day. Bring your stationery to the exam to erase inconvenience.
  • Reach on Time: Reaching on time is very important as biometric registration is done on the day of the exam. Being late can not only result in nervousness but can also create lots of confusion. To ensure that everything goes smoothly, reach the exam centre 40 minutes before the reporting time.
  • Wear your Confidence: Confidence is the key to success so wear it on the day of the exam. It helps in staying calm and removing stress.
  • Mastering Time Management: Students must excel in time management to ensure their artistic and drawing skills are fully utilized within the allotted exam time. Emphasising speed is crucial for expressing ideas effectively.
  • Identity Verification: Besides the admit card, candidates must present a valid original photo ID at the NID DAT exam centre. Acceptable IDs include a college-issued identity card, driving license, passport, PAN card, voter ID, Aadhaar card, or a printed e-Aadhar card.
  • Consider the Question’s Weightage Before Attempting: Before attempting a question, consider its weightage. Questions with higher marks should be addressed thoroughly, including all relevant rough drawings, factors/perceptions (as required), and a comprehensive final solution.

Top Don’ts for NID DAT 2024

Here are the big no-nos for the NID DAT 2024. Try avoiding them to perform well and ace the exam.

  • Do not Overstudy: Studying is a good thing but overdoing it can only lead to restlessness and exhaustion before the exam day. It can also be tiring for the body and mind.
  • Do not Leave any Topic Unattended: Check the syllabus and all the important topics. Leaving anything for the last minute or skipping on topics should be avoided.
  • Do not Pick up too many Books: Instead of focusing on quantity, focus on quality. Do not study from too many books as it can create chaos in the mind. Also, try sticking to books with easy language and sufficient information.
  • Do not Practice on A3-sized Sketchbooks: Practice sketching on A4-size papers and canvas only as the answer sheets of the exam are also of A4 size.
  • Do not Spend all the Time on Drawing: Sketching and drawing are crucial parts of the NID DAT, however, they are not. Invest time in an objective section of the exam as well.
  • Do Not Skip the Sample Papers: Candidates often believe that preparing from books is the best way of scoring well in the exam. NID DAT sample papers, mock tests and previous year's question papers are also very crucial for the NID DAT exam. Solving them gives an idea about the nature of questions and also increases the speed and accuracy.
  • Do Not Avoid Revision: Keep at least 3-4 weeks aside for revision as it helps in retaining the memory. Preparation of the last few days is very important as whatever aspirant studies in the last days stays fresh on his/her memory.
  • Do Not Carry any Electronic Devices: Electronic Devices are prohibited on the exam premises. Candidates must not carry calculators, smartphones etc. in the examination hall.
  • Do Not Start Late Preparation: Time is very crucial for NID DAT preparation. Starting late can decrease the practice time which can hamper the final result.
  • Do Not Panic: Try keeping your nerves under control as panicking can result in memory loss which can further result in poor performance. Stay confident and avoid focusing on the negatives.
  • Do Not Focus on the Essentials of Drawing: Simplify your drawing techniques; avoid complex methods like oil painting. Focus on the drawing itself, as more marks are awarded for it. Use basic sketching with pencil colours for efficiency. During the exam, dry colours are advantageous as they require less time. Practice with dry colours to become more proficient.
  • Focus on Your Work, Not Your Score: In the exam, don't stress about achieving high scores. Have confidence in your drawing and answers. Begin by lightly sketching and concentrate on drawing-related questions. Once you're content with your proportions and rough sketch, proceed to finalize it.
