Eligibility Criteria of WBJEE 2023

The WBJEE 2023 eligibility criteria mentioned here is explained as per the information bulletin of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board. The streamwise eligibility conditions of WBJEE 2023 can be checked below. All the norms included in the information bulletin of the entrance exam have been elaborated here in a simple manner. Only the candidates satisfying the eligibility criteria of WBJEE 2023 are allowed to fill out the application form.

WBJEE 2023 General Eligibility Criteria

The general eligibility criteria for WBJEE 2023 can be checked below -

NationalityThe applicants must be citizens of India
Lower Age LimitThe lower age limit for the WBJEE exam should be 17 years as of December 31, 2022.
Upper Age LimitThere is no upper age limit for the WBJEE exam.
Lower & Upper Age Limit for Marine Engineering CoursesFor admission in Marine Engineering courses, the lower age limit should be 17 years as of December 31, 2022, and the upper age limit should be 25 years as of December 31, 2022.
Entrance Exam ApplicabilityWBJEE or JEE Main. Candidates with a valid rank/ score in JEE Main are exempted from WBJEE.

WBJEE 2023 Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech

The eligibility criteria for B.Tech admission through WBJEE is as follows -

Rule 1:  The aspirants must have passed Class 12th in West Bengal with Physics and Mathematics as major subjects and Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Technical Vocational Subject/ Computer Application/ Computer Science/ Biology/ Biotechnology as the third subject. Only such students are eligible for engineering stream exam of WBJEE.

Rule 2: The candidates must have passed Class 12th with a minimum of 45% of marks. However, 45% minimum marks criteria in Class 12th is only applicable for General Category. For reserved categories such as SC/ ST/ PwD/ OBC-A/ OBC-B, the minimum qualifying marks is 40%.

Rule 3: The candidates must have passed English in Class 12th with a minimum of 30% of marks.

Candidates who do not satisfy any of the above-mentioned eligibility norms are not eligible to appear for the entrance exam.

WBJEE 2023 Eligibility Criteria for B.Pharma

The eligibility criteria for B.Pharma admission through WBJEE can be checked below -

Rule 1: The aspirants must have passed Class 12th with Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics or Biology as the compulsory subjects.

Rule 2: The candidates must have passed Class 12th in the above subjects with a minimum of 45% of marks. However, the qualifying marks for reserved categories is 40%.

Rule 3: The applicants must have passed English as one of the subjects in Class 12th, and the minimum marks required in the respective subject is 30%.

Rule 4: NIOS Studentsare not eligible to appear for WBJEE exam.

WBJEE 2023 Eligibility Criteria for B.Arch

The eligibility criteria for B.Arch admission through WBJEE counselling is as follows -

Rule 1: The applicants must have passed Class 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the compulsory subjects.

Rule 2: The applicants must have a minimum of 50% of marks in Class 12th in the above subjects to be eligible for the admission process.

Rule 3: The applicants must have a valid score/ rank in NATA or JEE Main Paper 2 exam.

WBJEE 2023 Domicile Rules/ Criteria

Unlike other states, there are no strict domicile rules for seeking admission in B.Tech/ B.Pharma/ B.Arch courses through WBJEE. However, there are some important domicile rules that the applicants need to check -

Domicile Rule 1: Candidates aspiring for admission in Government Colleges/ Jadavpur University must be the permanent residents of West Bengal. Students from other states are not eligible for admission in Government Engineering/ Pharmacy colleges located in West Bengal.

Domicile Rule 2: Reservation quota and policies are applicable for West Bengal domicile students only.

Domicile Rule 3: Candidates who have been permanently staying in West Bengal for 10 or more than 10 years are eligible for above-mentioned policies. 

Institute-wise WBJEE 2023 Eligibility Criteria

The institute-wise academic eligibility criteria for WBJEE 2023 is given below:

University of Calcutta

Except ‘Jute & Fibre Technology’, all Programmes are available

Candidate should pass 10+2 or equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, as mandatory subjects with at least 60% (55% for candidates of Reserve Category) marks in all the above subjects taken together, individual pass marks (both in practical and theory where ever applicable) in each subject and in English it will be at least 30 % marks.

Jute & Fibre Technology programme

Candidate should Pass ‘10+2 or equivalent Examination with Mathematics and Physics along with any one of Biology/ Biotechnology/ Chemistry as compulsory subjects with at least 45% (40% for Reserved Category Candidates) marks in all the three chosen subjects taken together, individual pass marks (both in Practical & theory where ever applicable) in each of the subjects and with at least 30 % marks in English.

Jadavpur University(Faculty of Engineering & Technology)

All available programmes including B. Pharma and except the five Year degree Architecture programme

Pass 10+2 or equivalent Examination with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as mandatory subjects with at least 60% (45% for reserved category candidates) marks in all the three subjects taken together, individual passing marks (both in practical and theory wherever applicable) in each of the subjects and in English, with at least 30 % marks.

West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences

B. Tech (Dairy Technology) programme

Candidate necessarily has passed the 10+2 standard examination with  Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry and as important subjects with individual pass marks (in both practical and theory wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as above stated in regular Class mode.

Candidate necessarily has gained at least 50% marks (40% in case of reserved category students) in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and English, taken together.

The Board of the Qualifying Examination must be recognized by the  State Government or Central Government concerned.

Neotia University

All B. Tech programmes except Marine Engineering

Pass 10+2 standard or equivalent Exam with Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics, as compulsory subjects with at least 60% marks in the above three subjects taken together.

B.Tech (Marine Engineering)

Candidate must pass 10+2 standard exam or equivalent Exam with  Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects with at least 60% marks in the above three subjects taken together and at least in English it must be 50%.

The admission to B.Tech program at Jadavpur University is done on the basis of the WBJEE entrance exam. However, in order to sit for the WBJEE exam, the candidate must have passed Class 12th from a school in West Bengal.
