TANCET Eligibility Criteria 2026

TANCET 2026 Eligibility Criteria is defined by Anna University to appear for the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) examination. According to the latest TANCET eligibility criteria 2026, candidates must complete their graduation with a minimum of three years in BCA or B.Sc (IT/ CSE/ equivalent). Or, the candidate who holds a three-year bachelor's degree other than BCA or B.Sc (IT/ CSE/ equivalent) and has studied Mathematics at 10+2 level or graduation level is also eligible. Candidates must have obtained a minimum aggregate of 50% in the qualifying exam (45% for reserved category candidates). TANCET 2026 MBA Eligibility Criteria states that candidates must pass their graduation with 50% aggregate marks, where 45% are for the reserved category candidates(SC, ST, OBC, etc).

Detailed Eligibility Criteria for TANCET 2026

The following are the eligibility norms for 2026 TANCET:

  • Candidates appearing for the last semester are also eligible, but they may need to produce all the documents within the time limit given.
  • Candidates who belong to another state can also apply, but the eligibility will be determined by the respective authorities. The application fees will be higher for them. Also, there will be limited seats for candidates from other states.
  • Candidates with valid GATE scores with qualifying marks in relevant disciplines of Engineering /Technology do not need to appear for the TANCET 2026 exam.
  • Candidates who have a valid GATE score with qualifying marks in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL), have to appear for the TANCET 2026 exam also.
  • This Bachelor's degree should be under 10+2+3/ 10+2+4/ 10+2+2+1.
  • The degree can be B.Tech/B.E/ MCA/ Sc./ B.Pharm. / B.Sc/ B Com or relevant degree from Science, Arts, Commerce.
  • Candidates with a 10+2 + AMIE* (or) 10+3 years diploma (awarded by the State Board of Technical Education) + AMIE* are eligible to appear for the entrance examination

MBA

The candidate should have a bachelor's degree from any institute recognised by UGC or should be registered with the Indian Government. Candidates should have scored at least 50% (45% in the case of candidates belonging to the reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination.

A pass in a recognised Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration in BCA, B.Sc. (Information Technology / Computer Science), Computer Science and Engineering or equivalent* and obtained atleast 50% (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination

(a) 10 + 2 + 3 / 4 / 5 years Pattern

M.Arch

Candidates need to have a BArch degree from a reputable institute

AIIA (Associateship Examination of the Indian Institute of Architects) with a valid registration with the Council of Architecture

MCA Lateral Entry 

A pass in a recognised Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration (in disciplines other than the ones mentioned above) with Mathematics at 10+2 level or at Graduate level and obtained at least 50% (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination

M.E. / M.Tech/

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree (Btech or BE) or any equivalent in the relevant field and obtain at least 50 % (45 % in the case of candidates belonging to the reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination from any recognised institute/university.

Note: The required bachelor's degree varies according to the chosen M.Tech course. Candidates must check the required graduate degree according to their chosen course.

M.Plan 

Candidates must have completed a Bachelor's degree in either of the following courses

3. B.E. (Civil Engg.)

Note: The admission to the participating colleges through TANCET is completely based on the admission offering college, and it can change according to the norms of colleges.

TANCET 2026 Reservation Criteria

According to the TANCET 2026 reservation policy, out of the total number of seats in the TANCET participating colleges 2026, a certain percentage of seats will be reserved for candidates belonging to SC/ST/SCA categories.

Candidates applying for admission in any of the TANCET 2026 participating colleges against any of the above-mentioned quota should keep the following pointers in mind:

  • Only native Tamil Nadu candidates will be considered for communal reservations according to the rules and regulations laid down by the Government of Tamil Nadu

  • All the candidates seeking admission against the above-mentioned categories must attach a photocopy of the social status certificate issued by the concerned authority along with the application form

  • ST candidates must make sure that the community certificate, which they need to produce, is issued by the Regional Division Officer only

  • Candidates in possession of a community certificate issued by a competent authority from other states will not be considered for communal reservation

  • The candidates must obtain their community certificates from their respective districts

  • Those candidates will be considered for Open Category admission who will fail to produce the permanent community card certificate

Note: Most Backward Class, Backward Class (Minority) and Denotified Communities candidates who have migrated to other districts of Tamil Nadu must produce their community certificates issued by a competent authority of the migrated district. 

What After Fulfilling TANCET 2026 Eligibility Criteria?

Important Documents Required for TANCET 2026

When you fulfil the eligibility criteria, you have to produce the original documents as well during the document verification round. Here is the list of important documents you should keep prepared. 

  1. Standard 10th and 12th Mark Sheets as proof of the 10+2 foundation.
  2. Semester-wise or Consolidated Mark Sheets of the qualifying UG degree. 
  3. A valid Provisional or Degree Certificate. 
  4. Transfer Certificate (TC) from the last attended institution. 
  5. The Community Certificate (for SC/ST/SCA/BC/BCM/MBC/DNC) to validate reservation and fee concessions.
