TANCET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

In order to apply for TANCET 2020 successfully, it is important that candidates meet the eligibility criteria of TANCET 2020, only then he/she will be allowed to appear for the entrance examination. Candidates must note that TANCET 2020 eligibility criteria is different for each course. However, the common eligibility criteria to apply for TANCET 2020 is, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field of study. It is mandatory for all the candidates to fulfil the TANCET 2020 eligibility requirements that are specified by the exam conducting authority. If the candidates fail to satisfy the TANCET 2019 eligibility criteria, his/her application is liable to be rejected. Candidates must, therefore, carefully read the course-wise eligibility norms beforehand.

The TANCET 2020 eligibility norms are based on the criteria of age limit and on the basis of their qualification. The candidate applying for TANCET 2020 should also be an Indian citizen. TANCET 2020 is a state-level examination that is expected to be conducted in the month of June in a pen-paper mode for the candidates who wish to seek admission to Postgraduate programmes like M.Tech, MBA, MCA and M.Arch in various colleges/institutes of Tamil Nadu.

Detailed Eligibility Criteria for TANCET 2020

Following is the eligibility norms for 2020 TANCET:

  • Candidates appearing for last semester are also eligible but they may need to produce all the documents within the time limit given.
  • Candidates who belong to another state can also apply but the eligibility will be determined by the respective authorities.
  • Candidates with valid GATE score with qualifying marks in relevant discipline of Engineering /Technology, they do not need to appear for TANCET 2020 exam.
  • Candidates who have a valid GATE score with qualifying marks in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL), they have to appear for TANCET 2020 exam also.
  • This Bachelors degree should be under 10+2+3/ 10+2+4/ 10+2+2+1.
  • The degree can be B.Tech/B.E/ MCA/ Sc./ B.Pharm. / B.Sc/ B Com or relevant degree from Science, Arts, Commerce.
  • Candidates with 10+2 + AMIE* (or) 10+3 years diploma (awarded by the State Board of Technical Education) + AMIE.* are eligible to appear for the entrance examination.
MBA

Candidate should have a bachelor's degree from any institute recognised by UGC or should be registered with the Indian Government. Candidates should have scored at least 50% (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination. 

MCA Candidates should pass a Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration with Mathematics at 10+2 level or at Graduate level from any recognised institute/university and obtained at least 50% (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination. 
MCA Lateral Entry  Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration in BCA, B.Sc. (Computer Science / Information Technology) with Mathematics at 10+2 level or at Graduate level and obtained at least 50% (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination from any recognised institute/ university
M.E. / M.Tech/ M.Arch/M.Plan  Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent in the relevant field and obtained at least 50 % (45 % in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination from any recognised institute/university.

Any decision on the eligibility norms for admission to colleges in Tamil Nadu, through TANCET, completely depends on authority offering the courses

TANCET 2020 Reservation Criteria

According to the TANCET 2020 reservation policy, out of the total number of seats in the TANCET 2020 participating colleges, a certain percentage of seats will be reserved for candidates belonging to SC/ST/SCA categories. Roughly 69% of the total seats will be reserved for candidates belonging to SC/ST/SCA categories while the remaining 31% of seats will be available for the admission of open category students as well as candidates belonging to other India states.

Candidates applying for admission in any of the TANCET 2020 participating colleges against any of the above-mentioned quota should keep the following pointers in mind:

  • Only native Tamil Nadu candidates will be considered for communal reservations according to the rules and regulations laid down by the Government of Tamil Nadu

  • All the candidates seeking admission against the above-mentioned categories must attach a photocopy of the social status certificate issued by the concerned authority along with the application form

  • ST candidates must make sure that the community certificate which they need to produce must be issued by the Regional Division Officer only

  • Candidates in possession of a community certificate issued by a competent authority from other states will not be considered for communal reservation

  • It is mandatory for the candidates to obtain their community certificates from their respective districts

  • Those candidates will be considered for Open Category admission who will fail to produce the permanent community card certificate

Note: Most Backward Class, Backward Class (Minority) and Denotified Communities candidates who have migrated to other districts of Tamil Nadu must produce their community certificates issued by a competent authority of the migrated district. 

What After Fulfilling TANCET 2020 Eligibility Criteria?

After checking the detailed course-wise eligibility criteria of TANCET 2020, candidates can proceed to fill the TANCET 2020 application form which will be soon released by Anna University in online mode. Candidates must ensure to fill the online application forms of TANCET 2020 before the last date of application submission.  

Candidates will be required to fill and submit the TANCET 2020 application form in order to get themselves registered for the entrance examination. They will have to fill their personal, academic and contact details as a part of application form filling process. Once the candidates successfully fill and submit the application form, he/she will receive the admit card of TANCET 2020 in online mode displaying all the examination related details.

Who Will be Ineligible for TANCET 2020?

Some of the categories of candidates that have been mentioned below will not be eligible to appear for TANCET 2020. Let’s take a look:

  • All the candidates who have obtained their degree without qualifying 10th, 12th or 3 years degree programme will not be considered for the admission process of TANCET 2020.

  • All the candidates who have not obtained their B.Tech/B.E. degree course will also be ineligible to appear for Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET).

Important Points to Remember for TANCET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Some of the important points that must be kept in mind regarding the TANCET 2020 eligibility criteria have been listed below:

  • The eligibility criteria that will be prescribed for TANCET 2020 examination will not specify an age limit for the candidates applying for the entrance exam. i.e. there is no minimum age limit to apply for any course.

  • Even if one attempts and clears the TANCET entrance examination, Anna University or the conducting authority has discretionary powers to reject a candidate if he or she actually fails to fulfil every element of TANCET eligibility criteria 2020.
