Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) 2016 Analysis

The Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) 2016 was conducted today on May 7, 2016 between 9.30 AM TO 12.00 NOON at different cities for admission to Law programme at their various campuses of Symbiosis Law Schools all over India. Test scores will be used to provide calls for Symbiosis Law School – Pune, Symbiosis Law School- Noida and Symbiosis Law School-Hyderabad for B.A.LL.B and B.B.A.LLB programme.

Most of the students felt the paper was relatively easy.

The paper had a total of 150 questions, to be attempted in 150 minutes, and was divided equally over the five sections. Each question had 4 options and carried one mark each. There was no negative mark for an incorrect attempt.

SET Law 2016 Section-wise Analysis

Analytical Reasoning

This section comprised different question from areas such as series, coding and decoding, odd one out, statement conclusion, clock and calendars, reasoning-assertion, probabilities etc. The difficulty level of this section was easy. Surprisingly questions based on Ratio & Proportion Time and Work, Averages, SI-CI were also asked in this section which are in fact parts of Maths. A score in the range of 22-26 can be considered to be good score in this section.

Legal Reasoning

A combination of questions based on Legal Reasoning and Legal Knowledge, this section had around 8 questions each from the law of contracts, law of torts and law of crimes. Questions from Legal Knowledge were also asked. There were a significant number questions where facts were provided but the related legal principles were not there. Questions from Family Law, Intellectual Property or International Law were conspicuous by their absence. The Legal knowledge questions were based on Contracts and Constitutional law (Polity) Mostly. A score in the range of 20-24 should be considered good.

Logical Reasoning

Different question types from areas such as Analogy, Syllogisms, Statement Conclusion, Statement Assumption, Strong and Weak Arguments, drawing conclusions from given statements, cause and effect, Course of Action and Critical Reasoning were there in this section. There were a good number of questions based on arrangements. The questions were of moderate difficulty level. A score of around 20-23 should be considered a good score in this section.

SET Law 2016 Analysis: Reading Comprehension

This section had 6 passages and 30 questions in total, each passage having 5 questions. The passages were relatively small and were from a variety of topics. Most of the questions were direct and could be answered easily with direct reference to the passage. The passages discussed topics like Services Act of Maharashtra The Chrysler Story, Barring women in Temples, Net Neutrality etc. An attempt of 22-25 questions should be considered a good attempt.

General Knowledge

Questions in this section included both Static and Current GK. The questions were from the areas like Awards & Honours, events, personality, institutions etc. The difficulty level of this section was easy and was probably the easiest of the five sections. An attempt of 22-25 questions in this section should be considered good.

Overall, it was an easy paper and the cut-offs would remain more or less same as last years. The cutoff for the WAT-PI round is expected as following:
