The CAT 2021 scorecard will contain the section-wise scores as well as the overall score of the candidates.
CAT 2021 results are accepted by 20 IIMs and more than 2000 other MBA colleges in India.
A print out of the CAT 2021 scorecard will be required during the CAT selection process.
Here are the steps explaining how to download the CAT 2021 Result.
Candidates who appeared for the CAT 2021 examination will receive the overall CAT result on their registered mobile numbers. The detailed result will be available on the official website of CAT.
Considered as an extremely important document, CAT 2021 scorecard will be required at the time of the admission process. Not just IIMs, many other institutes that accept CAT score ask for the official CAT Scorecard during their process of admission.
The result for CAT 2021 will be calculated based on the exam's marking scheme. As per the marking scheme, candidates are awarded 3 marks for every correct answer and they lose one mark for every wrong answer. There is no negative marking for non-MCQs.
The CAT result is announced by IIMs in the form of percentile. IIMs and other CAT participating institutes shortlist candidates on the basis of CAT percentile. The CAT Normalisation Process adopted by the IIMs will be used to calculate the CAT 2021 percentile.
Scores of CAT are calculated during the marking scheme of CAT i.e 3 marks for each correct answer and -1 mark for each incorrect answer.
After that, the section-wise scores, as well as overall scores of CAT, are normalized to calculate the scaled CAT score.
The normalized scores of CAT are then converted into percentiles which are then updated on the CAT scorecard.
The percentile of CAT will depend upon many factors such as difficulty level of the exam and the number CAT aspirants.
Since CAT 2020 was conducted in three sessions, the normalisation process of CAT 2021 provided here is as per the last year's pattern. The information will be updated if there are any updates to the CAT exam pattern this year. Each session of CAT 2021 has a different question paper. Also, the difficulty level of each question set can be slightly different. Therefore, making use of the normalization process ensures fairness and equity in the marking process for candidates across all the sessions. CAT 2021 normalization is done along the similar lines as GATE scoring, where the normalization is done basis the fundamental assumption that the distribution of candidates' abilities is similar across all the sessions. The normalization followed in GATE takes into consideration all the variations in the question papers' difficulty levels across different sessions.
The scorecard of CAT comprises the scaled scores for each section (Section I: Verbal and Reading Comprehension, Section II: Quantitative Ability and Section III: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning) and total along with the percentiles. The scaled scores are obtained through the normalization process, which involves adjusting location and scale differences of score distributions across different forms. The scaled scores are then converted into percentiles for shortlisting candidates for further admission rounds at IIMs.
When you receive your CAT result cum scorecard, make sure it has the following details printed on it:
Candidate's Registration number/User ID.
Name, category, and gender of the candidate.
Candidate's Date of Birth (DOB).
Date and time when the examination was taken by the candidate.
The CAT score is valid for one year only. For CAT Result 2021, the score validity will be until 31st December 2022. Any query related to the scorecard will not be entertained beyond this date.
Once the CAT results are published, IIMs and CAT 2021 participating institutes will declare their official cutoff. Based on the cutoffs, candidates will be shortlisted for the further admission rounds, which may include Writing Ability Test, Group Discussion/Group Exercise/Case Study and Personal Interview. The cutoff percentile will vary from institute to institute. While some of the top B-schools including the IIMs announce their selection criteria as well as the cutoff prior to the announcement of the result, there are many management institutes that announce their cutoffs post the announcement of CAT result. Based on the candidates' performance in CAT 2021, selection rounds and overall profile, the final merit will be prepared for admissions.
