NCHMCT JEE 2016 Analysis

The National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), an autonomous body under Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, has conducted NCHMCT JEE 2016 on April 30, 2016, from 10 am to 1 pm in 33 cities across the country. The entrance test has been reported to be of easy level of difficulty.

Around 20,000 candidates appeared in the entrance exam for admission to 52 institutes of hotel management (IHMs), including 21 Central, 16 State Government and 15 private institutes. The total number of seats is around 7,500 for 3-year B.Sc. programme in Hospitality and Hotel Administration. The question paper had 200 marks comprising 200 questions and was set in English and Hindi (except for the questions of English Language Section). Each question had 4 options. In all the sections, except the Service Aptitude Section, each correct answer was to be awarded 1 mark while 0.25 mark was to be deducted for each incorrect answer. The 'Aptitude for Service Sector' section had different marking scheme- The marking scheme of this section was as below:
1 mark will be awarded for the most appropriate answer, 0.75 for the next best answer, 0.50 for the next best choice and a negative of 0.25 for the least appropriate one.

This section mostly was a mix of Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension questions. In Vocabulary, there were questions on Synonyms, Antonyms, One Word Substitution, Idioms, and Spelling. There were multiple Reading Comprehension passages. Some passages were followed by 5 questions while some were followed by 2 or 3 questions. These passages were based on diverse topics and questions were direct. The overall difficulty level of this section was easy.

Reasoning and Logical Deduction

This was a more or less easy section and had 30 questions. A student could do around 20 - 22 questions in 30 to 35 minutes. This section comprises questions on Series, Coding - Decoding, Blood Relation, Syllogisms, Visual Reasoning, etc which could be solved by applying basic logic.

Numerical Ability

This was an easy section that had 30 questions in total. The questions in Numerical Ability section were from varied topics like Ratio, Percentage, Simple and Compound Interest, Probability, Time, Speed and Distance and Time and Work.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

Questions from Current Affairs and General Science dominated this section. The questions on Science were easy and required basic understanding of the class IX & X level of science subjects. The overall level of difficulty of this section was easy. The remaining questions were mostly from current affairs and there weren't many questions from static G.K. The areas from which the questions were asked included hospitality industry, personality, awards, sports, science & technology, etc. An attempt of around 22-24 questions is good. The level of difficulty of this section was easy.

Aptitude for Service Sector

This section had 50 questions in total, which were easy in nature and required common sense to answer. The questions were related to real life situations, particularly those of service sector. The questions tested the personality traits, decision-making ability, ability to react etc of the students. Since the situations were not very difficult or uncommon, each question could have been attempted with a little bit of thought.
