About IIT Kanpur : Is this a govt. college? And what is the fees?

The Indian Institute of Technology's (IIT) are autonomous public institutes of higher education which are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act. Each IIT is linked to other IIT's through a common IIT Council, which oversees their administration. At presesnt, there are 23 IIT's in India. 

As of 2016, the annual tuition fees for undergraduate courses in IIT's has been increased from Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 2 lakh. The data for 2017 is yet to be released.
