Dear student,

Biotechnology will involve the study of engineering, math, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, process biotechnology, plant and animal biotechnology, immunology, bioinformatics, etc. You can pursue a B. Sc, B. E or B. Tech degree in Biotechnology. Some of the top colleges in India offering Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology include:

As for the second part of your question, MBA VS M. Tech, it totally depends on your interest and skillset. We suggest you to take one step at a time. Start with your Bachelors in Biotechnology, as you progress, you will get an idea of whether you want to pursue Biotechnology at an M. Tech level or not.  Should you choose it, you will be on the development side of business. But if you want to do MBA, then you will be focusing more on the analytical and logical side of a business/ product. What interests you 3 or 4 years down the line is difficult to predict at this juncture. So, we advise you to keep an open mind.

Bio Entrepreneur VS MBA

Bio-Entrepreneurship involves three important criteria – ideation, invention & innovation. If you have these qualities in you, then go, become a Bio Entrepreneur in a big way. See the fundamental thing you have to remember is biomedical and health related ideas are of no use until they get into the marketplace. So if you have a killer idea and have thought of how to invent and innovate on it as per the market needs, then you are ready to go! And if this becomes a success, then there is no looking back. The money is excellent.

As for MBA, once done, you will be managing one of the business aspects of running a company, depending on your specialization – HR, Marketing, Sales & Finance, etc. With time and experience, you may choose to turn Entrepreneur yourself.

So, in the end, both can lead to the same goal. The question is, whether you want to gather some work experience first, understand the market and then take the plunge or do you want to do it straightaway. Whatever you decide, good luck!!
