Is supplementary exam same as improvement exam? And will we need to give practical as well even if we pass in practical exam?

Dear student,

Meaning of Supplementary exam vs Improvement exam:

Supplementary Exams:

  • These are primarily for students who have not passed one or a few subjects in their main exams.
  • The purpose is to give students a chance to clear those subjects and avoid failing the entire year.
  • In many educational boards, the term "compartment exam" was used earlier, which is now replaced by "supplementary exam".
  • The focus is on achieving a passing grade.

Improvement Exams:

  • These are for students who have already passed all their subjects but want to improve their scores in one or more of them.
  • The goal is to increase their overall percentage or to get better marks in specific subjects for higher education admissions.

Practical Exams:

  • Generally, if you have already passed the practical component of a subject, you typically do not need to retake it during a supplementary or improvement exam.
  • The focus of these exams is usually on the theory portion.
  • However, this can vary depending on specific rules determined by your education board. Therefore it is always best to check with the board that is conducting the exam.
