Ophthalmology : Is BSC opthalmology different from BSC optometry

- SowmiyaUpdated On May 08, 2019 12:00 PM

Dear Student,

Usually, students are confused about the differences between optometry and ophthalmology. Though both of them deal with eye care, there are several common misconceptions between the two. Ophthalmologists and optometrists both play a crucial role in providing eye care but their levels of training and expertise are quite different.

Optometrists are eye care professionals who provide primary vision care ranging from sight testing and correction to the diagnosis, treatment and management of vision changes. An optometrist is not considered as a medical doctor. Usually, an optometrist receives a degree after the completion of B.Sc Optometry course.

An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specializes in eye and vision care. Only MBBS graduates are eligible to become Ophthalmologist.
