Hi,

One of the most common misconceptions among the Class 12 PCM students is that engineering is the only good career option after class 12 board exams. You can choose various programmes according to your preference. The thing that matters while choosing the programmes is your interest and skills. Prefer choosing the programmes that will help you succeed in the future:

Following are some of the courses for PCMC students after Class 12:

Course Career Prospect Ways to get admission
Bachelor of Designing Designing is a broad subject and can be classified into textile, fashion, interior, website, product, etc. But B.Design in graphic designing, website designing, communication, animation, illustration, multimedia, etc. can give an edge to your logical and quantitative skills. These specializations can get you a job with the best IT and tech organizations including Microsoft, Google, etc. Average paying jobs are also available in the creative industry. Most of the colleges take admissions on the basis of entrance exams such as NATA and UCEED. Other institutes conduct their own entrance exams such as BHU UETMU OET, etc.
Bachelor of Architecture With infrastructure blooming in India, there are a lot of opportunities (both on-site and off-site) for architecture students. For advanced education, students can also pursue masters from universities abroad to get the best opportunities. Most of the prestigious institutes including government colleges take admission on the basis of JEE Mains. However, some of the institutes take admission on the basis of state based exams such as KCET, COMEDK UGET, etc.
Public Health Science Although this is still an upcoming field in India, there are some bright job options in the private sector. After a BPHS degree you can work as a public health executive. Few of the government and international organizations also offer jobs in the public sector. If you consider going all the way and apply for MPHS after your graduation, you will have a good scope in research. Since there are few colleges offering this course, there is not a common entrance exam for the course. Admissions are done either on the basis of merit of class 12 marks or on the basis of entrance exam conducted by colleges.
Army Technical Entry/ Airforce/ Indian Navy If the armed forces and paramilitary have piqued your interest then you can apply for the technical entry to the Indian army or Airforce. These are not regular army jobs. The army provides technical education to candidates and prepares them to tackle the essential equipment required by defensive force. Qualified individuals are recruited in the defence forces for different technical positions. In order to apply for these technical entries, you will have to apply for the National Defence Academy written exam. After clearing the exam, the students will also have to clear the SSB Interview conducted by the authorities.
B.Tech/BE Engineering is one of the most well-known and highly opted career in India. Most of the students tend to choose engineering for the high paying job options and to work with some of the most reputed organizations in the world. Be it any branch of engineering, if done from a reputed institute can open the gates to brilliant opportunities with companies like Microsoft, Schlumberger, Goldman Sachs, Oracle, etc. Admission to IITs is done on the basis of JEE Advanced whereas admissions to IIITs and NITs is done on the basis of JEE Mains. Some of the universities also conduct their own exams or take admission on the basis of state level entrance exams like MHT CET, KCET, etc.
Bachelor of Computer Application There a lot of scope after pursuing BCA. If computer science and its applications is what interests you then you can benefit the most from this course. It opens a whole lot of opportunities for you in the IT industry. Once you have brushed up your programming skills, you can expect good packages after BCA. The options are even better if you complement your BCA degree with MCA programme. Admissions are done either on the basis of class 12 percentage or on the basis of state level entrance exams. Some of the universities might also conduct their own exams for admission.
Science Honours Honours in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics are ideal for students who want to foray into the education sector or want to get into the research domain. Regardless of the choice, there are ample of opportunities after these course in both private as well as government sector. If you pursue your masters with the same subject, there is a good chance that you will be able to apply for organizations like TIFR, IISc, etc. for research and fellowship programmes. Admissions to universities like the DU are done on the basis of class 12 board exam score. Some prestigious institutes also conduct their own exams for admissions.
Merchant Navy Naval engineering or marine engineering is also a bright option if you are looking for high paying careers. Merchant navy is a quite a flourished industry in India and there are various reputed organizations that offer jobs such as Maersk, Wallem Ship Management, etc. For admission, you will have to clear the AIMNET exam. Most of the institutes take admission on the basis of AIMNET score. However, some institutes also take students on the basis of class 12 marks.
