Suppose i score 23/80 in theory paper. I fail in theory paper. I score 18/20 in project. This sums up to 41/80. What will be considered overall?

Dear student,

The Indian board exam system requires you to pass both theory and practical/project components (because they have separate passing criteria). Even if your combined score (theory + project) meets the overall passing percentage, you will still be considered to have failed if you fail in the theory portion.

Let us simplify this for your understanding:

  • Boards typically require you to pass the theory paper and the practical/project work separately.
  • This means you need to achieve the minimum passing marks in each component.
  • Since you scored 23/80 in the theory paper and failed, your overall combined score doesn't matter.
  • You will be considered to have failed the subject, even with a strong project score.

Your good practical/ project score of 18/20 is commendable, but it cannot compensate for failing the theory paper.

Therefore, despite your total score being 41/100, you will be considered to have failed the exam. You will most likely have to take a supplementary or compartment exam to clear the theory paper.
