There are three main types of transpiration in plants:
I. Stomatal Transpiration:
Mechanism: This is the most significant type of transpiration, accounting for the vast majority (around 90%) of water loss from plants. It occurs through tiny pores on the surface of leaves, stems, and other green parts of the plant called stomata.
II. Cuticular Transpiration:
Mechanism: This type of transpiration occurs through the cuticle, a waxy layer covering the epidermis (outermost layer) of leaves and stems. The cuticle's primary function is to reduce water loss.
III. Lenticular Transpiration:
Mechanism: Lenticels are small pores or openings present on the bark of woody stems and some fruits. They are involved in gas exchange, allowing oxygen to reach the internal tissues.
