  • You must practise frequently if you want to increase your speed and accuracy. To improve your problem-solving abilities, attempt a few different kinds of questions of varying degrees of complexity.
  • By regularly reading books, articles, and newspapers, you may improve your reading comprehension skills and increase your speed. You will find this useful in the VARC part.
  • You may gain an understanding of the exam pattern, level of difficulty, and types of questions asked by solving CAT question papers from previous years. An essential component of CAT preparation is taking mock exams. Take comprehensive mock tests to recreate the setting of the real exam and assess your performance. You may use this to determine your strengths and weaknesses.
  • Reading is a healthy habit that may be quite helpful while preparing for entrance tests like the CAT. Reading often improves one's vocabulary, general understanding, and even reading comprehension speed.
  • In order to succeed in the CAT 2024 exam, you'll need to be familiar with short forms, calculations based on tricks, and shortcut methods.
  • The key to obtaining good scores on the CAT exam day is time management. During your preparation, practise excellent time management. Spend the necessary amount of time on each segment, and learn to answer questions quickly within the allotted time.
  • Choosing the best books and correct study material is also one of the most effective ways to prepare for entrance exams like the CAT.

CAT 2024 Preparation Tips for Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)

Candidates must prepare for the VARC section of CAT thoroughly as it is the most time consuming section of CAT. Check out the CAT VARC preparation tips mentioned below:

  • The time given to complete this section of the CAT exam is 40 minutes. Test takers must not take more than 30 minutes to answer the maximum number of questions in this section. The remaining 10 minutes should be utilized revising the answers and attempting unanswered questions.

  • The VARC has been structured in a way to judge your reading skills along with your language knowledge. Experts advise on improving grammatical understanding, which can be done by following good grammar books.

  • For a better understanding, reading through junior-level books is recommended by experts and CAT applicants who have scored 99 percentile.

  • Sub-sections like Fact Inference Judgment, Para Completion, Verbal Reasoning, Analogies, and Para Jumble are the ones that need more attention and understanding.

  • Other sub-sections need more practice and a little bit of memorizing when it comes to synonyms and idioms. For this, you can solve CAT practice papers or CAT previous year question papers.

  • Solving previous years’ papers will also help in understanding the pattern and structure of the questions framed for VARC.

  • Experts also advise learning as many as 10 new words with their meaning, synonyms and usage.

CAT 2024 Preparation Tips for Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DI & LR)

The CAT DILR section can be tricky and often tedious to solve. Candidates must follow the tips mentioned below when preparing for CAT DILR:

  • There are a total of 32 questions that are to be answered in 40 minutes. However, an idol examinee would be expected to complete this section in not less than 35 minutes while 5 minutes can be kept for revision and unattended questions.

  • The motive for this section is to understand the calibre of the candidates with respect to their logical thinking and approach. In order to master this section, candidates will have to first understand every given topic in detail and then start practising them.

  • Sub-sections that must be prepared first include Caselet, Bar Graph, Data Sufficiency, Clocks and Calendars, Data Arrangement, Binary Logic, Constraint-based puzzles, and Venn Diagram.

  • Candidates should read the questions carefully before solving them. They should have a clear explanation for choosing an option.

  • They should read all the response choices carefully before choosing or eliminating any. It is to be noted that no changes can be made after the candidates choose an option.

  • Special importance should be paid to words like “some”, “all”, “none”, etc. Many a time these words are used to twist the question which in turn leads to confusion in choosing an answer.

  • Candidates can also utilise scratch paper to draw schematic notes or diagrams.

  • Take help from teachers and seniors to study the tricks and methods of solving the questions in this section.

  • While preparing the sub-sections, remember to complete one topic at a time. Devote an equal amount of time to each topic and sub-sections to understand the details including the methodology of finding out the solution.

  • Remember not to rush in attempting all the questions. Instead, pick the questions that you can solve easily and attempt them first, and then switch to the time-consuming ones.

CAT 2024 Self Study vs Coaching - Which is More Important?

When it comes to CAT 2024 self study vs coaching, it is to be noted that both self-study and attending coaching classes are considered to be important if candidates are to ace the CAT exam. Aspirants need to figure out a strategy to create a balance between the two. While some MBA aspirants attend coaching classes, others invest their time in self-study and searching for study material on the internet. There is no such hard and fast rule that has to be followed to do well in the examination. Candidates should, in fact, stick to practices that are sustainable in the long run.

To ace, an exam like CAT, proper guidance and knowledge about proper study materials are considered to be the most important elements. Both of these are provided to the students by the CAT 2024 coaching institutes. They train the students in a manner that helps them deal with any sort of difficulties with ease. Students who are on the path of looking for answers on how to prepare for the CAT exam 2024 while pursuing their graduation courses often lose track, which leads to a bad score in the entrance.

The coaching institutes provide lessons on time management and teach them how to create a balance between the two. Apart from this, the coaching institutes also conduct various mock tests that help students evaluate their potential and give them a scope to work on their weaknesses. Top institutes also conduct examinations at the national level which provide students with an opportunity to know if they stand a chance to achieve their goals. Another side of the coin is that many candidates who aspire to crack the CAT exam cannot afford to attend coaching classes or do not have such institutes in their localities.

The brighter side is that there are many candidates who have cracked the CAT exam in the past without the help of coaching institutes. One advantage of not joining coaching institutes is it saves a lot of time for the CAT exam 2024 preparation. To sum it up, hard work and practice are the two major elements that help in achieving a national-level entrance exam like the CAT. Joining a coaching institute can surely be effective but self-study can be equally rewarding.

Role of Coaching in CAT 2024 Preparation Process

Preparing for the CAT exam is a long-term strategy. It is necessary to begin planning for it at least 6 to 9 months beforehand. CAT 2024 Month-Wise Preparation Plan

CAT preparation is one of the most crucial aspects of the CAT exam. Candidates typically start preparing for CAT months in advance just to cover the entire syllabus. That being said, the amount of time taken to prepare for CAT is different for every individual. Some students can prepare for CAT in a shorter period of time due to their strong conceptual background in areas like Mathematics and the English Language. Other candidates require a longer period of time to prepare for CAT since they have to start learning everything from scratch. That being said, candidates should begin their preparation at least 6 months before the exam. Check out the various stages of the CAT preparation divided into 6 months mentioned below:

CAT Preparation Plan: Month 1

Assuming candidates start their CAT preparation at least six months before the exam, they ought to start around June or July. Aspirants must concentrate on becoming familiar with the CAT syllabus in its totality as well as the fundamental ideas they must acquire at this point of their preparation. Candidates' only goal should be to determine their strengths and weaknesses. To better understand where they stand in relation to the CAT syllabus during this period, students should take at least one to two full-length mock exams. Candidates must allocate enough time to all three CAT sections and allocate some of that time to section-specific revision and practice.

CAT Preparation Plan: Months 2 & 3

The goal of this CAT preparation phase is to thoroughly comprehend and become accustomed to the CAT syllabus. Included in this are all the fundamental ideas, subject areas, topics covered in the syllabus, and all the different types of exam questions. Candidates should approach this goal in a stepwise manner, first learning the concepts, then applying them, and ultimately testing their understanding of each topic. C.A.T is another name for this approach:

  • Concepts: Learn and understand all the basic concepts and formulae included in the CAT syllabus.
  • Application: Try solving problems that utilize the concepts learned in the previous stage.
  • Test: Finally, test your knowledge of the concepts with the help of topic-based tests and sample questions.

CAT Preparation Plan: Months 4 & 5

This round of the CAT preparation strategy is an important one because it allows aspirants to hone their strengths and pinpoint and strengthen their weaknesses. Candidates must continue developing and experimenting with their exam approach throughout this phase, as well as scheduling additional resources for study. During this stage, candidates must commit a significant amount of effort to revising the topics and concepts. One of the most crucial components of this phase of preparation is the use of CAT practice tests and exams, which will aid applicants in improving their exam strategy.

CAT Preparation Plan: Month 6

For many reasons, the final month of the CAT preparation schedule is crucial. Candidates should not put too much pressure on themselves at this point in the CAT preparation process as they begin learning new ideas that may have gone unlearned in the months prior. Candidates should only choose topics for revision at this stage that they are very familiar with. Candidates must continue taking practice exams and refine their test-taking tactics. Following each fake test, carefully analyze each component to find any issue areas, try to address these problem areas, and, most importantly, develop mental toughness.
