Dear Student,

Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore is the only institute in India that offers a research-oriented B.Sc. course. On the completion of this programme, graduates are awarded the Bachelor of Science (Research) degree. This programme has been specially designed with the aim of training students to use their education and knowledge in solving real-world problems.

The BSc (Research) course offered at IISc focuses on keeping its students in touch with the world and society around them and is different from a regular Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) programme in multiple ways.

  • It is a 4-year course instead of a regular 3-year programme.
  • It includes subjects such as engineering and humanities as an integral part of the curriculum for the first three semesters. Specializations are introduced from the fourth semester and the final year of study is reserved solely for a research-oriented project.
  • Students are encouraged to take up courses related to other disciplines.

Please feel free to write back to us if you need any other information.

Thank you.
