Hi Anand,
It is essential that you know the difference between the MBA course and Post Graduate Diploma Programme (also known as PGDM and PGP) Course before picking either of the programmes.
MBA Programmes:
Only colleges affiliated to a university can offer MBA degree for the business courses offered by them. Therefore colleges like FMS – University of Delhi, NIMT Institute of Management – Rajasthan Technical University, etc. offer MBA Degree. MBA courses are accredited by the university to which the college providing the course is affiliated.
PGDM:
An autonomous institute (for example, IIMs, XLRI, NMIMS, MDI, etc.) offering business programmes will always offer Post Graduate Diploma Programme i.e. PGDM course as it is a free body and is not affiliated with any university. PGDM courses are approved and recognized by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education).
Now, if you look at both the definition properly, there is no academic difference between the two programmes. However, they can differ in terms of curriculum structure, mode of education, duration and certification given at the end of the programme (i.e. an MBA is awarded with a degree whereas a PGDM graduate is awarded with a diploma).
Therefore, you can pick either of the programmes depending on your budget and future goals.
