JNU has organised a workshop in online teaching for its faculty members. The workshop will be held for two days, 30th April 2020 and 1st May 2020.

JNU holds digital workshop for faculty

JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) has decided to hold online workshops on 30th April 2020 and 1st May 2020 to train the faculty members during the coronavirus lockdown period. The two-day workshop at JNU will be on the usage of the digital platform for teachers in imparting education to the students. As per the official circular released, the decision has been taken in order to maintain the teaching and learning process.

JNU had conducted a similar workshop on 18th and 19th April 2020 which was on the topic ‘Empowering Teaching Through Online Mode’. This workshop had not only made the faculty familiar with digital platforms but also granted them the ability to conduct classes online with ease. The vice-chancellor of JNU, M Jagadesh Kumar, tweeted about the upcoming workshop organised by the university and told that its topic is “Design, Develop and Deliver Online Courses with Moodle Learning Management System”. He further said that there are over a thousand participants for this workshop from across India. Through this, JNU is playing an active role in training teachers to use digital platforms during COVID-19.

The Vice-Chancellor further said that taking this step would be beneficial for the teachers as it is important for them to learn how to use digital platforms. This will prevent any kind of academic loss of the students during the coronavirus lockdown. It would also empower teachers to learn the online methods of imparting knowledge to the students which has never been more imperative.

The previous workshop held by JNU was a major success and it included topics like making choices regarding suitable platforms. It also explored vivid online tools and platforms including Zoom, Google Classroom, Teamviewer, Labview, and Moodle. The online workshop took into account the presentation and development of e-content including SWAYAM, MOOCs etc.

Keeping it in mind the outbreak of coronavirus, the entire nation has been living in complete lockdown for multiple weeks now. Numerous admission processes and exams have been postponed or cancelled. Amidst the chaos, JNU has taken a commendable step of organising an online workshop for virtual teaching. It would maintain the continuous flow of education and would not stop the teaching-learning process even in such challenging times. JNU has also released a notification regarding lockdown 3.0 that the university will remain closed till 17th May 2020.
