Delhi Education Budget 2021: Law University, English Speaking Course Top Priority - Check Highlights Here

The Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia has announced the budget of the city government. A law university, sports university and English communication course have also been introduced, Check the details of the budget here.

Delhi Budget: Law University, English Speaking Course to be Introduced for Higher Education

The Deputy Chief Minister of the national capital, Manish Sisodia, announced on March 8 that the setting up of a New Delhi Law University is on cards. He also revealed that the work on the Skills and Entrepreneurship University has already commenced. Sisodia further stated that in 2021, a Sports University is also likely to start functioning from this year.

The Deputy CM made all of the aforementioned announcements on Tuesday while presenting the budget of the city government. Sisodia mentioned that around 36.42% and 66.44% seats were increased in higher education and technical education respectively. 

He made multiple announcements while presenting the city government budget. He confirmed that the construction of Guru Gobind Singh IP University East Campus and Ambedkar University in Rohini and Dhirpur are expected to wind up by May 2021 and September 2023 respectively. He said that it will increase the seat intake capacity in technical and higher education.

Another scheme introduced by Sisodia is for strengthening English Communication Skills for those who have finished schooling. The programme will be in collaboration with international agencies that provide English speaking courses. He said that it will help students while seeking employment and securing admission in higher educational institutes abroad.

The budget also highlighted a scheme focusing on the personal and language development of students. He stated that around 5-6 lakh students are likely to benefit from this programme in a period of 3 months. The education will be granted through self-learning modules and regular classroom methods.

The Deputy Chief Minister has requested the Central government to change the “100 years old” Delhi University Act 1922 and “50 years old” Delhi School Education Act 1973 as they are not aligned with the ethos of the new education policy. It will help in fully implementing the National Education Policy.

As per the budget, the Directorate of Higher Education will continue to offer guarantees on education loans of up to ₹10 lakhs. The students who have cleared the class 10th and 12th from Delhi will be eligible to avail the loan. This fiscal year, the government will also keep providing up to 100 per cent fellowship. The scheme will be only for those students whose families earn less than 6 lakh per annum.

As per the budget announced by the deputy chief minister, a total of ₹16, 377 Crore has been allocated to the educational sphere for the next financial year.
