Department of Journalism Guwahati University Marks Pre-Golden Jubilee Celebration

The department of Communication and Journalism, Guwahati University, inaugurated a series of lecture sessions on Tuesday, the 23rd of February, 2016 to mark the pre-golden jubilee celebration of the department of communication education in the state. The session was led by Prof Mrinal Chatterjee, professor and head of Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Dhenkanal, Odisha. The focus of this session was “New Frontiers of Journalism”.

The event was inaugurated by Dr S.K. Nath, Registrar of the University wherein he said these initiatives would make the department vibrant and give new vigour to journalism education in the state.

During the event, Professor Chatterjee stated that with the use of social media, people have become unsocial these days. He also discussed the present scenario of the mass media, media use in India, problems of mass communication and emerging trends in journalism. In addition to this, he also talked about the new frontiers of journalism and their importance in the near future. He mentioned that maintenance of credibility is the only way of survival in journalism.
