India Lags Behind in Terms of Quality Education: Naseem Ahmed at Jamia

Naseem Ahmed, Chairman of National Commission for Minorities, indicated that the most worrying thing that the education system is facing is the lack of world-class higher learning institutions. On the other hand, the quality of primary education in India is not up to the mark, and it is affecting the quality of higher education directly. There is a need to upgrade teaching skills and knowledge.

He was addressing the students at an international seminar at Jamia Milia Islamia on the theme ‘Teacher Education: Challenges, Opportunities and Strategies’.

He further added that the world has been experiencing a knowledge explosion and India is lagging behind with respect to universal and quality education. The country has to face various challenges at the international level to achieve superiority in universal education. For this purpose, world-class institutions must come up.

He pointed that around 39 percent of schools in the country have less than 50 students and teachers working in 21 percent of elementary schools are untrained. Currently, only 18 percent of teachers are in a position to avail annual in-service training.

He indicated that school education plays a significant role in the development of a student. Hence, the school education must lay a firm foundation for the students’ career. The quality of education at school level has to improve which is possible only with the upgradation of knowledge and skills. Teachers must update their knowledge continuously and teach students effectively.
