Kanpur University to Organise Workshop on Analytical Instruments

University Institute of Pharmacy and Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology of the Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, also known as C.S.J.M.U in Kanpur is organizing a two-day workshop on "Analytical Instruments". The event is scheduled to be held from November 9 - November 10, 2017.

Theme of the Workshop:

The workshop is being organized for researchers and teachers with pharmacy and life science background to enhance analytical skills in ways more than one. Procedures like HPLC, HPTLC, FTIR, U.V. Spectrophotometer, Brookfield viscometer, Gel Doc, PCR, ELISA etc. will be used. The experts from these fields will be sharing their expertise with participants of the workshop and the event will be a great opportunity for them to learn these techniques.

Highlights of Techniques that will be used:

  • High-Performance Liquid Chromatography is a highly sensitive chromatographic technique. HPLC is able to effectively separate molecules under pressure over a large surface area. It can do so for samples of minute concentration such as nanogram and picogram. One of the other reason why this is possible in HPLC is the availability of highly sensitive indicators like UV-visible and fluorescence spectrophotometers, electrochemical detectors etc. HPLC takes less time when compared to other technologies whereas troubleshooting is relatively easier in case of HPLC.

  • HPTLC (High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography) technology is the advanced version of Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) and is used to separate the non-volatile mixtures.

  • Real-Time PCR (qPCR) can rapidly and sensitively determine and quantitative presence of nucleic acids in various biological samples. This technique can be utilized in wide variety of professions like biotechnology, medicine, forensic, diagnostics etc. Unlike conventional PCR, Real-Time PCR is able to detect and give the report in real time.

  • ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) is a diagnostic technique which is used to detect antigen or antibody elements in a given sample. This technique proves to be very useful in diagnosis as it can detect up to 95% of infections within 4 to 6 weeks.
