LU to Boost Tourism Course

Institute of Tourism Studies, Lucknow University, had targeted students interested in tourism in the admission processes. Director Manoj Dixit said that the aim of the exercise was to be able to give good products for the professional industry. The institute is offering courses in the Bachelors in Tourism Administration, Masters In Tourism Administration, Masters in Event Management, Diploma in International Airline Ticketing CRS (Computer Reservation System) and Bachelors in Hotel Management Course.

“This time we had separated the admission processes from Lucknow University because when the courses were clubbed together students who were not interested in the tourism course would opt for it. This time we went offline and students who were interested in our courses had to tap our website to get the form. We also carried out a screening test because it was important to have people who were good at communication skills in order to be able to create a good manpower. The tourism industry looks for people with good communication skills,” he said.

According to the director university had also roped in professional people for the screening of candidates for the institute. “We got professional people from the tour and travel associations at the screening of students so that they could guide us in the kind of professionals they needed for the industry,”

The director said that the iInstitute was likely to increase the number of seats for its courses. He added that the Bachelors of Hotel Management, which had been a pilot project, would be taken up as a full-fledged course. He agreed that with the thrust of the state government on tourism there had been several students who had shown interest in the tourism courses.

Recent stats show that Students are more keen on tourism courses because of the state government’s great thrust on them. Girls had been more inclined to the tourism courses. ''This is a hospitality sector hence the women have been more inclined to the tourism sector,'' said Director.
