NIOS TV and Online Initiatives for Learning

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) under the direction of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has come up with an innovative method to make sure that the education of learners is not hampered due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.

Content is being made available online via ‘SWAYAM’ MOOC platform of MHRD for various subjects for classes 9-12. In addition to the self-learning material, ‘SWAYAM’portal also has video lectures and self-assessment facility. The queries and questions of the learners will also be resolved through the discussion forums.

Those who do not have access to the internet can watch the video lectures as they are telecast on MHRD SWAYAMPRABHA TV channels along with live sessions to interact with the subject experts and teachers. Students preparing for JEE and NEET can also benefit from this initiative while sitting at home.

Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, NIOS has innovated itself through telecast of live sessions via Skype in association with NVS, KVS, CBSE and NCERT through Swayam Prabha channels. The learners can watch educational programmes on the NIOS YouTube channel and DTH channels.

It has 6 hours of the recorded broadcast from 7 am-1 pm followed by 6 hours of the live session from 1 pm-7 pm with four different subject experts for one and half hour session each. Learners can ask questions directly to the subject experts from their home through phone calls on the number displayed during the live session and through ‘NIOS Student Portal’ directly in a live telecast.
