The results of the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination 2019 (abbreviated as OJEE) were declared on 19th June 2019, Wednesday. Soon after, the state was ecstatic about a surprising feat in which a street hawker had managed to crack the state's biggest entrance exam of engineering.
Bhabani Shankar, the street hawker who excelled in OJEE, achieved this extraordinary accomplishment through his single-minded aim and grit determination. His story is a matter of inspiration to many and has motivated a great number of young minds.
Bhabani Shankar is currently a plus three student and has cleared the Odisha JEE 2019 in the lateral entry. He is now eligible to take admission in the second year of B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) courses. Shankar’s family has a business of selling the local snack ‘Baraa’ and he managed the business by helping his father during the day. Shankar devoted his nights for the preparation of the entrance exam after spending the day with his father carrying out his family business.

The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, congratulated Bhabani Shankar for his exceptional performance and phenomenal feat. He tweeted about this and expressed his appreciation and well wishes for him.
Bhabani was overwhelmed and emotional when the results were declared. He expressed his happiness and said that he had always aspired to become an engineer but he had to opt for B.Sc (Bachelor of Science) because of the financial constraints of his family. Bhabani hails from the Pipilia village that lies in the Keonjhar district of Odisha.

Shankar had secured 62 per cent marks in his class 10th exams from the Torani Pani High School. He completed his higher secondary (class 12th) education from Laxmi Narayan Degree College in the science stream. He is pursuing graduation in B.Sc from the same college presently.
