UP Board to introduce formative assessment for Class 9 to 12

UP Board is going to implement a formative assessment system for students of Class 9, 10, 11 and 12. Almost 28,000 schools affiliated to UP Board will implement the formative assessment in the next academic year.

UPMSP UP Board: Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad will be implementing the formative assessment system as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the upcoming academic session. The formative assessment will be carried out for more than 1 crore students studying Class 9, 10, 11 and 12 in UP. As per the details released by authorities, 28,000 schools affiliated with the UP board across the state will implement the formative assessment system adhering to the NEP 2020 guidelines. UP Board has rolled out a separate format through which the formative assessment can be implemented. 

UP Board New Formative Assessment Scheme

Here is how UP Board is going to carry forward the new formative assessment scheme for Class 9, 10, 11 and 12 students from the upcoming academic session -
  • Formative assessment will be applicable for all subjects
  • Formative assessment includes group discussions, debates, making models, visual presentations, charts, role-plays and more
  • The evaluation will be carried out ding the teaching process so that both teachers and students are getting feedback on teaching and learning

The formation assessment will be conducted once as it will be a continuous process that will be conducted along with classroom teaching. Divyakant Shukla UP Board secretary said that district inspectors of schools (DIoSs) of the different districts have been informed that each student needs to take the formative assessment for the development of the students. 

In the first stage, the formative assessment will be implemented in different phases starting with students of class 9th. The evaluation will not be done upon learning but alongside the learning. The main goal behind this is to assess the student's learning level and understanding of the subject matter taught during the assessment process.

This way teachers will be getting feedback on the teaching process and will be able to measure the effectiveness of the technique. With the help of the evaluation, the process candidate will be able to enhance the teaching method and find students' weak points that need improvement.
