Vice-President of India Urges for MBBS Degree in Indian Languages

  • Mr. Venkaiah Naidu underlined the significance of mother tongue during his address at valedictory ceremony of Golden Jubilee celebrations of Hindustan Group of Institutions.
  • He added that all the professional courses in India should be imparted in local languages.

Speaking at the valedictory ceremony of Golden Jubilee celebrations of Hindustan Group of Institutions, Vice President of India, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu favoured professional degrees like MBBS in Indian languages. He was speaking about the significance of education system in context to Indian culture, heritage and history.

Honourable Vice-President of India expressed that the prevalence and dominance of English language had a negative impact on regional languages. Right from primary level, students are being taught in the English language, and the importance of mother tongue is being minimised. Therefore, it is necessary for all the states to impart education in mother tongue to underscore the significance of language, he added.

Mr. Venkaiah Naidu added that he wanted to see a day when professional courses like MBBS are taught in regional or local languages. The education system must impart/ inculcate strong humanistic, moral and ethical values.

The Vice President of India further explained that India was a great destination for knowledge and it was often regarded as ‘Viswaguru’. Knowledge seekers and aspirants with great education zeal across the world flocked to the centres of learning in India. Nalanda and Takshashila were the great education centres during those days, he highlighted.

Expressing his views on changing education scenario, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu pointed that the Indian education system underwent changes only after the advent of British. After independence, it took a lot of time to change the education system in India. Now, the time has come for the esteemed country to emerge as a global knowledge hub, he concluded.
