Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, the former President of India addressed the immediate necessity of bridging the gender gap in the literacy of our country. According to him, the most important is to educate women to educate the entire family. According to the 2011 Census, the literacy percentage of male in India is 80.2 percent whereas the literacy rate of women in India is only 60 percent.
The issues of child mortality can only be addressed when the mothers in the houses are educated. The rate of literacy among women must be equal to male literacy. According to him, if you educate a man, you educate an individual. But, if you educate women, you educate the entire family. That is why it is important to educate women.

The women; if educated well; would be more effective in taking care of the health and hygiene of their family. With women education on point, many fundamental changes can be addressed in the healthcare system and health awareness can be built amongst youngsters.
Mr Mukherjee addressed that India is one nation and the plurality can only be strengthened by imparting knowledge amongst the mothers and daughters as they will teach the new generation.
