IIT Bombay is the first institute in India to scrap offline or face-to-face classes until January 2021. The announcement has officially come from Director of the premier institute, Subhasis Chaudhuri. The Covid-19 pandemic has made IIT Bombay transform its mode of education from offline to online. The online classes for next start will start soon, and no delay in the academic session will happen. The detailed schedule of online classes will be information on the official website of IIT Bombay, Facebook and other social media platforms.
This is the first time that IIT Bombay will be starting the new academic session with no students on the campus. Other IITs across the country are expected to follow a similar procedure for the commencement of the academic session.
Director of IIT Bombay agreed to the fact that most of the students enrolled in the premier institute are from economically weaker sections and accessibility of online classes may be difficult for them. In order to mitigate this problem, he appealed for donations to help bridge the digital divide. The funds raised through this initiative will be useful for purchasing laptops and internet data plans so that students from these sections can access virtual classes.

In order to provide digital resources to students, the institutes require at least Rs. 5 crores. The alumni of the institute have been doing their contribution.
