The Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing Kancheepuram signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for academic and research collaboration. This initiative will most importantly allow the top 10% students of the Bachelor of Technology stream of the IIITDM to take direct admission in the PhD programme offered by IIT Madras.

The IIITDM sixth semester students will be able to pursue their seventh and eighth semesters from IIT Madras once they complete their sixth semester from IIITDM. More interactions and sharing of thoughts and ideas will be exchanged on a bigger level which was earlier held at smaller levels. This will also encourage and promote students to work harder for their betterment and achievement. The initiative will also help students to transfer their credit scores from the course of one institution to the course of the other. The new system will categorically make the first year of the PhD programme of IIT Madras equivalent to the fourth year B.Tech programme of IIITDM Kancheepuram.
