The Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing Kancheepuram signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for academic and research collaboration. The collaboration in the field of academic and research will open up more opportunities for students and faculties of both the institutions. This initiative will most importantly allow the top 10% students of the Bachelor of Technology stream of the IIITDM to take direct admission in the PhD programme offered by IIT Madras.
The IIITDM sixth semester students will be able to pursue their seventh and eighth semesters from IIT Madras once they complete their sixth semester from IIITDM. The MoU was signed on 8th February 2019, at the campus of IIT Madras. The signing was done by the Director of IIT Madras – Professor Bhaskar Ramamurthi and Director of IIITDM Kancheepuram – Professor Banshidhar Majhi.
After signing the MoU, both the Directors highlighted the importance and benefits of the MoU and the collaboration. They addressed the initiative as a positive effort and a proud factor for IIT Madras and IIITDM. They also highlighted the fact that the exchange of academic thoughts and students for the purpose of research will open new ventures in the research field.

More interactions and sharing of thoughts and ideas will be exchanged on a bigger level which was earlier held at smaller levels. This will also encourage and promote students to work harder for their betterment and achievement. The initiative will also help students to transfer their credit scores from the course of one institution to the course of the other. The new system will categorically make the first year of the PhD programme of IIT Madras equivalent to the fourth year B.Tech programme of IIITDM Kancheepuram.
