Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Chief Minister stated that the government has assessed the results of the schools under the Government of the state. It revealed that students were not able to score more than 95 per cent in mathematics and science like the rest of the subjects.
The Government of Delhi is to get help from external agencies to hold special mathematics classes before the Class 10 Board exams for the year 2020 begin. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced the same in order to improve the exam results.
The Delhi cabinet approved the proposal of the introduction of the "Maths Teaching Project" through the Directorate of Education.

The results in the two subjects have gone down relatively with students scoring not more than 76 per cent in mathematics.

The Deputy CM said that the Delhi government has taken the decision to conduct additional coaching classes in schools in order to improve the results of the students who are lagging behind. The students who have failed or need to reappear or take the compartment examination can also take the extra coaching classes.
Mr Sisodia mentioned that the classes are focused on improving the Class X result of the students in the current session. He also shared the details of the classes which would further focus primarily on mathematics.
The Directorate of Education's proposal is majorly for approval for the external agencies to assign their respective resource persons who would be conducting the extra mathematics classes prior to the commencement of the board exam and compartment exam if needed, he further added.

These resource persons will add to the efforts of the teachers in the respective targeted schools along with making changes in the content for the benefit of the students. As per the report put forward by the Deputy CM, a total of 342 schools with a record of low maths result have been shortlisted.
The project is to begin from January 2020 for around 30,000 Class X students of Delhi government schools. Mr Sisodia said that 30,497 students appeared for the board in 2019 and the pass percentage was just 41.89 per cent.
The classes have been proposed to be 100-hours long entailing significant topics for the board exams accompanied by practice material. Each batch would have approximately 30 students with teaching time of two hours or more for each student every day. During the 2018-19 session, around 1.66 lakh candidates from the Directorate of Education took the Class X Board Exam conducted by CBSE. Of those 1.66 lakh students, 37,073 students flunked Maths.
