MBBS, BDS Seats Under Central Pool Reserved for Children Of COVID-19 Warriors

The Health Ministry has approved a new category in MBBS/ BDS seats for the wards of COVID-19 warriors. The new category will fall under the AIQ Central Pool.

The Health Ministry has approved a new category in MBBS/ BDS seats for the children of COVID-19 warriors. The new category will fall under the Central Pool (AIQ) MBBS and BDS seats for the academic year 2020-2021.

Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare confirmed the decision to introduce a new category in MBBS/BDS admissions - Ward of COVID Warriors. As of now five central pool MBBS seats have been reserved under the respective category and will be applicable from 2020-21.

The selection of the candidate under the respective category will be done on the basis of their rank in the NEET 2020 followed by the AIQ counselling held by the Medical Council Committee (MCC).

While confirming the news, the Minister said that this decision aims to honour the noble contribution made by the COVID-19 warriors and their tireless fight to treat and manage the COVID-19 patients. This move will honour the solemn sacrifice of all COVID-19 warriors who served selflessly to fight the pandemic.

All the those who are working as Public Health Provides including community health workers and those who have been in direct contact and care of COVID-19 patients and risked their lives for the same fall under the category of COVID-19 warriors. 

Private hospital staff and retired/volunteer/ local urban bodies/ contracted/ daily wage/ ad-hoc/ outsourced staff requisitioned by States/ Central hospitals/ autonomous hospitals of Central/ States/UTs, AIIMS and Institutes of National Importance (INIs)/ hospitals of Central Ministries drafted for COVID-19 related responsibilities are all included in the same.

The eligibility for the respective category will be certified by the State/UT government.
