As the Panjab University has been facing the financial crisis from last year, a delegation of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is going to meet the Union Minister of Human Resource Prakash Javadekar.
It is to be noted that following the complaints of the ABVP to the MHRD regarding misappropriation of funds in the PU hostels, grants to Panjab University had been stalled for the last year, leading to a financial crisis.

The ABVP delegates will invite Javadekar to visit the university. The situation has reached such a point that the varsity paid salaries to the employees by diverting funds from the pension cell.
We are going to meet the MHRD minister within few days. We are going to invite the minister to visit the campus. In our meeting, we will take up the issue of the fiscal crisis in the university and pursue him to release adequate funds to university so that university come out from the crisis, said a top ranking student leader of ABVP.
Following the ABVP complaint, the UGC constituted a fact- finding committee and asked the university authorities to put a double entry system in accounts.

The university was asked to hold recruitment of temporary employees in hostels in a centralised way. The income generated from the hotels should be shown in the annual documents of PU.
Due to the shortage of the fund, the university increased the examination fees charged from the students. Further, the proposal to increase the tuition fees from the next session was put before the Syndicate.
But the due to protest of the students, the issue was deferred. The delegation of ABVP also met Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover on August 1 and requested him to defer the fee hike. The V-C return told them to bring a grant of Rs 305 crore from MHRD as to defer the fee hike.
