Purvanchal University, Jaunpur was renamed Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University (in honour of the late Shri Veer Bahadur Singh, former Chief Minister of the state), and was established in 1987 as an affiliating university under the UP State University Act 1973. The university started with 68 affiliated colleges and now has 552 affiliated graduate and post-graduate colleges and a student enrollment of nearly 3,80,000 in 3 Districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

VBSPU is a UGC-recognised and NAAC-accredited institution and offers state-of-the-art facilities within the campus. The university claims to have grown qualitatively and quantitatively, offers excellent academic activities, and the academic administration is transparent and efficient which are some of the distinct characteristics on the basis of which it emerged as one of the leading universities in the country. They also provide scholarships to students who need financial support and have a good academic record throughout the year. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and doctoral courses.

Our Take:

VBSPU has not yet grabbed a position on the NIRF rankings list or The Week list. Since it is UGC-recognised and approved by NAAC and AICTE, VBSPU needs to take necessary steps to increase the quality of education and other factors that will help them get a rank among the leading institutes of the country.

VBSPU Academia & Batch Size

VBSPU offers various UG, PG, diploma, and doctoral courses in different streams such as Arts, Sciences, Education, Commerce, Medicine and Allied Sciences, Management and Business Administration, Pharmacy, Computer Application and IT, Engineering and Architecture, and Law. The number of students in the universities is 2,647 and the faculty count is 146.

VBSPU Fees

The course fees at VBSPU are not the same for all courses. It is a public university so the course fees are relatively reasonable. 

VBSPU Scholarship

VBSPU scholarships are given to candidates who belong to families with low economic backgrounds so that they get financial assistance and are encouraged to study further. Students can apply for the scholarship through the university’s official website after going through the eligibility criteria.

Our Take:

As per the students, the courses and curriculum offered by the university are good, but the teachers are not so experienced. The number of students in the university is around 3.5 lakhs including affiliated colleges and students on campus whereas the number of teachers is quite less. On the positive side, various scholarships are offered by the university which are quite helpful for the students. 

VBSPU Infrastructure

VBSPU offers separate boys' and girls' hostels with fixed capacities to accommodate students. The university aims to provide facilities so that students have a safe and comfortable environment to study. There are four separate hostel buildings for boys and two for girls. In 2016, the central library of Veer Bahadur Singh University was awarded as a ‘Centre of Excellence, it has a rich collection of books, reference books and journals providing necessary information for the students. The library also has Wi-Fi connectivity to provide internet facilities to the students. VBSPU facilities include an auditorium, sports facilities, a computer centre and guest houses. Hostel

There are 4 separate buildings for the boys' hostel where each room is for double occupancy with a bed, cupboard, study table and chair available for each student. It has all the infrastructure facilities, students’ mess, dining hall, recreation room, study room, internet facility, gymnasium, hall, badminton court, etc. 

The girls’ hostel includes 2 separate buildings with similar amenities. The hostels are well equipped with internet facility in each room, sports equipment, recreation room which helps all around the development of the boarders. The hostels have essential infrastructural facilities, like, students’ mess, dining hall, gymnasium hall, common room etc.

Auditorium

Veer Bahadur Singh University believes in the all-round development of its students. An auditorium with a capacity of 1000 provides the students with a platform to come out with their hidden talents. It is fully air-conditioned with wooden work on the stage and a lot of space. The VBSPU auditorium has separate rooms and other basic facilities for conducting special programmes like convocation, national and international level conferences and many other academic and cultural events.

Stadium

There is a large open stadium with a seating capacity of 5,000 people. The public has witnessed several sports finales at zonal, state and national levels. The lush green field has a proper track of meters. The lounge of the stadium includes rooms on the first and second floors and other basic facilities useful for conducting sports, NSS, Rovers and Rangers programmes. In recent years, the university has conducted several sports events like All India Kabaddi, Basketball, handball, Inter-University Cricket tournament etc.

Computer Centre

Computer Centre at Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University was established in the year 2008. It was renamed in 2016 as Sri Hari Murti Singh Computer Centre. It has a well-furnished air-conditioned computer lab in the Pharmacy building. The lab is equipped with all the basic software and hardware and VBSPU also organizes short-term training programs for the teaching and non-teaching staff to learn using computers.

Guest Room/ Waiting Room

VBSPU has two guest houses for teachers and other people visiting the university for various purposes. The rooms are well furnished with all facilities for their cosy and memorable stay on the campus, along with 24*7 services. The university also has a transit hostel to take care of the accommodation problem of teachers in the initial years of their job or of a contractual nature. It has furnished flats where each flat is a two-room set with a kitchen, bathroom, and balcony for ventilation.

Library

The university library is well stocked with professional Indian and foreign journals, newspapers, government publications, press clippings, reference books like encyclopedias, dictionaries, yearbooks, atlas, directories, etc. The Library premises are under CCTV surveillance to control unethical incidents. As the library has Wi-Fi connectivity, it allows the students to access the internet and eResource facilities even after closing the library.

Health Centre

One Health Center inside the VBSPU campus is managed by the university and has part-time doctors and staff for the OPD facility. There is also a primary health centre of the UP government in the campus block. The university community can get Ambulance services for emergencies (24×7), the UP Government dial 108 service is available along with a Gypsy van, an Empanelment of medical doctors, a Yoga & acupressure workshop and other facilities are also there inside the campus. 

Our Take:

The students have stated that labs are outdated and practical work at the university needs to be upgraded. The hostel for first-year students is near the campus but for students of other years, the hostels are about 1-2 km from campus. The food quality is average in the hostel there and the rooms have single fans and no AC. However, the library is good with a huge space for studying and offers current magazines, newspapers, books, etc. The classrooms of VBSPU have more or less well-furnished desks, a huge playground and sports equipment.

VBSPU Internships & Placements

As per VBSPU's placement records, the packages offered in the recent year ranged from INR 1.2 LPA to INR 7.50 LPA. The university hosts employment fairs every year where students can network with recruiters. The Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University placement cell manages all the internship and placement options offered to the students. It highlights correcting the shortcomings that the students must get beyond along with inviting many recruiters to the university-conducted job fair. 

Placement

The university job fair is conducted every year for placement and internship offers. The training and placement cell also takes care of the student's overall grooming. Various reputed organisations take part in the employment fair and offer jobs to eligible candidates. The average university placement packages offered range from INR 2.4 LPA to INR 3 LPA. the highest package offered to the students of VBSPU is INR 7.5 LPA.

Our Take:

The placements at Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University used to be good before COVID-19. There has been a drop in the average package offered to MBA students of almost 14% in the year 2022 when compared with 2020. Students have said that placements for information technology and computer science are average. Companies like Wipro, Infosys and some other average companies offer placements. There is not much scope for on-campus placements, so, students should look out for off-campus placements. However, the placement cell is good and very helpful. The university needs to improve in terms of placement opportunities as the average salary offered to students is much less as compared to other public universities.

Maximum students who get admitted to VBSPU are undergraduate students. The courses offered by the university are also more for the undergraduate level than the postgraduate level.

Our Take:

Most of the students studying at Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University are from the state of Uttar Pradesh and only a handful of students are from other states, which indicates that the university is mostly famous among the localities of the state. The male-to-female ratio in the UG courses is good, however, for PG courses, it can be improved. There are comparatively a good number of female students in the university.

The faculty members of Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University are very knowledgeable, friendly and extremely qualified and are mostly PhD holders. The VBSPU faculty is very helpful to the students because they are very highly experienced and supportive. Their innovative method of providing knowledge to the students is very helpful in understanding difficult problems. Faculties organise various types of workshops for a better understanding of the subjects. Students get to experience various expert lectures at the university.

VBSPU has a good faculty as the teachers are knowledgeable, experienced and helpful. Students are encouraged to participate in various activities including workshops and extracurriculars.

VBSPU Location

Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University is spread across 171.5 acres of land and is located at Shahganj Road in Siddikpur at Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. The campus is split in two by the Jaunpur-Shahganj road, which is located 10 kilometres from the old city of Jaunpur. The nearest railway station to the university is Jaunpur Junction Railway Station which is 8.7 km away. The nearest bus stop is Mahgawan Halt bus stop which is 5.8 km away and the nearest airport is Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport which is in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and is located 53 km away from the campus. Candidates can take a bus, auto or taxi to reach the university from the airport. The campus is far from the main city but VBSPU offers shuttle services. 

Our Take:

The university is situated a little bit far from the main city so the bus stop, railway station and airports are far from the campus. The students of VBSPU need to arrange some transportation to travel to the university campus. 

VBSPU Expectation vs Reality - CollegeDekho Verdict

VBSPU offers a variety of courses in UG, PG and PhD degrees which is a plus point as students get to choose which subject is suitable for them. 

The college can surely focus on improving its facilities like hostels, cafes, etc. so that students can feel at home and study peacefully. The number of students from other states is too low in the college which needs to be worked on to improve diversity. The placement cell needs to work more so that students get placed at top companies. Some graduates have stated that a few students were placed at call centres after completing their B.Tech.
