The CLAT 2021 schedule has been revised a few times already but with the announcement of the new exam date (July 23), the speculations regarding the exam being postponed any further can be put to rest.

CLAT 2021

The CLAT 2021 notification was released earlier this year and the dates have already been postponed a few times in wake of the second wave of coronavirus. The law aspirants had already started speculating how the schedule of CLAT 2021 will be affected and those who are applying for CLAT 2021 are trying to figure out if CLAT 2021 will be postponed or not. But the announcement of the new exam date (July 23) has brought these speculations to an end.

CLAT 2021 was earlier postponed from its scheduled date of June 13, 2021. The Consortium of NLUs reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the nation on May 15 and decided to postpone the law exam.  Earlier, Faizan Mustafa, the VC of NALSAR Hyderabad and President of Executive Committee of the CLAT Consortium had mentioned that the Consortium was hoping to conduct the exam as scheduled on June 13. However, the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country led to the postponement of the exam date. The CLAT 2021 aspirants have been requesting the Consortium to postpone the exam till August as they want the exam to be conducted in offline mode only.

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the most popular law entrance exam in India. More than 70,000 students apply for the exam every year only for CLAT UG. Admission to law courses of both undergraduate and postgraduate levels is offered through CLAT. The coronavirus pandemic spread in India has affected the education sector adversely and the admission process for the session 2020-21 is also being delayed now. Since CLAT 2020 was postponed several times and was finally conducted on September 28, 2020, instead of its originally scheduled date of May 10, 2020, students had concerns of the same happening this year as well.

CLAT 2021 Latest Updates

Since the release of the official notification, many alterations have been made to the CLAT 2021 schedule.

  • CLAT 2021 to be conducted on July 23 in offline mode from 2-4 pm.
  • The exam date of CLAT 2021 postponed to June 13 instead of May 9 as it was clashing with the CBSE board exams. This step was not taken because of the COVID-19 situation.
  • The last date to apply for CLAT 2021 extended from March 31 to April 30, May 15 to finally June 15.
  • The Consortium decided to postpone CLAT 2021 from its scheduled date of June 13, 2021, after having a meeting on May 15. Since the COVID-19 pandemic is spreading in huge numbers and the cases are expected to peak in June, the conducting body has decided to push the exam date ahead.

Students were worried that since the entire schedule of CLAT 2020 was pushed ahead a few months, it will affect the dates of CLAT 2021. However, the CLAT 2021 exam schedule is not being affected due to the delay caused in CLAT 2020. The admission schedule of the academic session 2020-21 has nothing to do with the next academic cycle.

The syllabus of the 10+2 level had also been reduced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), in an attempt to wrap up the entire curriculum of class 12th in time regardless of schools being shut down for most of the year. This was expected to enable the CLAT Consortium to stick to the pre-decided schedule and conduct the exam as per the previous years' timetable. However, the rising cases of COVID-19 have again put everything on a halt and all the decisions will be taken in due time.

Candidates who are preparing for CLAT 2021 must continue with their preparation. The applicants are advised to prepare well and go through the exam patternsyllabus, and best books of the CLAT 2021 to ace the exam.
