Will CLAT 2021 be Postponed/ Delayed?

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the most popular law entrance exam in India. More than 70,000 students apply for the exam every year only for CLAT UG. Admission to law courses of both undergraduate and postgraduate level is offered through CLAT. The coronavirus pandemic spread in India had affected the education sector adversely and the admission process for the session 2020-21 was delayed significantly. CLAT 2020 was postponed several times and was finally conducted on September 28, 2020, instead of its originally scheduled date of May 10, 2020.

With the release of CLAT 2021 notification, law aspirants have started speculating how the schedule of CLAT 2021 will be affected. The students who are looking forward to applying for CLAT 2021 are trying to figure out if CLAT 2021 will be postponed or not. According to the latest notification released, CLAT 2021 will now be held on June 13 instead of May 9. However, the date has been postponed as it was clashing with the CBSE board exams and not because of COVID-19.

Since the entire schedule of CLAT 2020 was pushed ahead a few months, it is natural to have concerns regarding the dates of CLAT 2021. However, it is quite unlikely that the CLAT 2021 exam schedule will be affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic or the delay caused in CLAT 2020. The admission schedule of the academic session 2020-21 will not have anything to do with the next academic cycle.

The syllabus of the 10+2 level has also been reduced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). Therefore, the entire curriculum of class 12th will also be wrapped up in time regardless of schools being shut down for most of the year. This will further enable the CLAT Consortium to stick to the pre-decided schedule and conduct the exam as per the previous years' time table.

Candidates who are preparing for CLAT 2021 must continue with their preparation, keeping in mind that CLAT 2021 will be held on June 13, 2021. The registration for CLAT 2021 has commenced from January 1, 2021, and will continue till March 31, 2021. The Consortium of NLUs had released an official announcement regarding CLAT 2021 on December 27, 2020 and that of the new exam date was issued on January 6, 2021. Meanwhile, applicants are advised to prepare well and go through the exam pattern, syllabus and best books of the CLAT 2021 to ace the exam.
