Google launched the Bolo app on 6th March 2019 to improve the children’s English and Hindi learning skills. The Bolo app is available on Google Play store, only in India.
Nitin Kashyap, Product Manager, Google India, informed that Bolo is a reading tutor app that will focus on improving students' Hindi and English reading skills. The aim is to inculcate reading habit in children.
The engineering lead for Bolo, Zohair Hyder explains that the app works as if you are talking to someone face to face. Bolo has aimed at bringing that experience in a smartphone. The app uses Google’s speech recognition and text to speech technology.
According to the reports, the Bolo App has witnessed very positive results. As a part of the Pilot Project, over 900 students in 200 villages in Uttar Pradesh tried the Bolo App and there was a significant improvement in their reading skills.
Apart from the reading skills, the app will encourage children to read by themselves. They can choose from a large array of engaging and interesting stories, which will help them enjoy learning as well as improve their reading ability at a pace that is comfortable for the child. They also claim that the security and privacy of the child will not be at risk as all the personal information of the child will be stored on the device.
One of the perks of the app is that it can run offline as well and without any advertisements. This will ensure that the student does not get distracted while using the Google App, ‘Bolo’.
