With a motive to provide education to the distressed families that swarmed into West Bengal after the Bengal partition, Ranaghat College laid its foundation in a small room of Nadia’s Pal Chowdhury High School in 1950 under Calcutta University. Presently, the college functions from Old Berhampore Road, Ranaghat, within its 4.68 acres of land. It is affiliated with Kalyani University and has been assessed and accredited by NAAC with a C grade.
Course-wise, the college offers 3 undergraduate programs - B.A, B.Sc, and B.Com with Honours, Major, and General degrees. There is also 1 postgraduate course in Bengali. The college also has an IGNOU centre offering UG, PG, Diploma, and Certificate courses and a DODL centre under Kalyani University offering distance education in Bengali, English, History, and Education. Ranaghat College admissions is done based on the candidate's performance in the qualifying examinations.
Ranghat College boasts about being a green campus, and the students are satisfied with the infrastructural facilities provided to them. Our Take
If we analyse the above data, we can conclude that more students are enrolled in general courses than honours. Notably, a substantial percentage of available seats are allocated to the BA General program. Some students have expressed concerns, alleging that honours students receive greater attention and priority, which signifies that even though a large number of students are enrolled in general courses. They are not satisfied with the quality of teaching provided.

Fee-wise, students have complained that Ranaghat College charges comparatively higher fees than other colleges affiliated with Kalyani University. They further added that the fees are increased every semester despite discrepancies in conducting regular classes.

As per the AQAR report for 2016-17, the college has a total of 11286 students with a demand ratio of 1:3. A total of 11,142 students are enrolled in undergraduate courses and 144 students in postgraduate courses.

Our Take:
When asked by students about the college culture, they have voiced that college politics have caused a lot of stress among students. Students are unwilling to attend classes, and the same is evident in the AQAR report, where the dropout rate is stated at 17%. The report further mentions that the total number . of actual teaching days during the academic year is 193, with an average student attendance rate of 76%.

Our Take:
From the above data, it is evident that the results are not satisfactory. Even if the pass percentage of UG Hons students is 82.15%, most of them are second-division holders, with no students receiving distinction. It signifies that the teaching pedagogy adopted by the college has not procured the right outcome. Ranaghat College needs to improve itself in terms of the quality of teaching and take the requisite initiatives to encourage students to attend classes regularly instead of focusing on college politics.

Our Take:
Having just 45 temporary faculty members, the faculty-to-student ratio is currently at 250 students per teacher, which falls short of expectations. Students have also expressed that the professors are unhelpful, and their interaction with students comes across as impolite. The college needs to make a stringent plan to provide students with the right education from the right educators.

Ranaghat College Expectation vs Reality- College Dekho Verdict
Established with a pious motive to provide education to economically challenged students, the college has provided complimentary facilities to its students. The newly developed canteen and the arboretum are the highlights of the college in terms of infrastructure.
Nonetheless, there are concerns brought up by students that demand specific consideration from the college administration. The student-teacher relationship requires enhancement, as students have voiced concerns about the approachability of their professors. Furthermore, students have conveyed dissatisfaction with the tuition fees, considering the level of teaching they receive.
