The academic council and syndicate of Gujarat University have decided to cut down the university's written exam duration by 30 minutes. All the written exams offered by the university will be now for 2.5 hours instead of 3 hours and the weightage of the exams will be 70 marks. The new exam duration will be implemented from December semester exams.
Digvijaysinh Gohil, Syndicate Member, said that the new time duration will reduce the burden of the students and with reducing weightage the varsity will be able to release the results in a short period of time. As per the GU officials, the new time duration and weightage will allow the varsity to conduct three exams in a day and will also reduce their burden of conducting exams.

As per the old system, the exam process used to take almost two months which will now be completed in 35 days. Each written paper will be of 70 marks and will consist of 14 objective questions and 4 subjective questions. The candidates will mark the answers (objective - type) on the Optical Mark Recognition System.
Apart from this, GU will remove the online admission process which will be effective from the next academic year. The online admission process will be removed for the courses such as B.A., B.Sc, B.Com, M.A., M.Sc, M.Com and others.

Himanshu Pandya, Vice Chancellor, GU said that the varsity decided to remove the online admission process as it used to take more than two months to complete which caused a delay in the start of next academic session.
