MHRD Selects 90 Research Projects Eligible for the PMRF Scheme for December 2019

The MHRD has released a notification regarding the shortlisted research projects under the Prime Minister’s Research Fund. There have been a total of 90 research projects that have been selected across various disciplines. These students will be eligible for research grants and monthly fellowships.

The final list of applicants who have been shortlisted to receive the Prime Minister’s Research Fund (PMRF) for December 2019 has been released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. A total of 90 different projects across various disciplines have been selected for the PMRF this month.

To sum the PMRF scheme, research aspirants from one of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes of Science (IISc), Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research and one of the Central Universities listed under the Top 100 NIRF Rankings, are eligible to apply for the PMRF funding.

Out the aforementioned institutes, the highest number of research projects have been selected from IIT Bombay, with a total of 25 research projects which will receive funding under the PMRF scheme for the December 2019 batch.

From other institutes, 14 research projects each have been approved from IIT Madras and IISc Bangalore. Further, 9 research initiatives have been selected from IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur each, meanwhile, 7 have been selected from IIT Kharagpur and 6 from IISER Pune.

The Ministry selected 2 research projects from IIT Hyderabad, while they selected one project each from IIT Roorkee, IIT Bhubaneswar, IISER Tirupati and IISER Thiruvananthapuram.

Earlier this year, applications had been invited for PMRF from students who had either completed or were currently pursuing their final year of the 4-year UG or 5-year integrated M.Tech or M.Sc or any other 5-year UG-PG dual degree along with those from the 2-year M.Sc in one of the Science or Technology courses from one of the Institutes that have been mentioned above.

Those PhD aspirants who had applied for the PMRF scheme and have been selected for the same will now be eligible for funding that will be used to carry out their research projects. As per the scheme, for the first two years, the students will receive ₹70,000 every month, which will increase to ₹75,000 for the third year. For the 4th and 5th year, the fellowship will increase to ₹80,000 per month.

Along with the monthly fellowship, students will also be given a ₹2 lakh research grant annually for a duration of 5 years. The Research Grant will be offered to the students so that they are able to cover the academic expenses that will arise through their national and international travels.
